Hey gang! I have read this board for a while and I am finally getting a chance to go to AC. Question....I just received my Hep A shot and chose not to get the Hep B. Did I make a mistake? Also, we are arriving about 4 pm...just in time for dinner. Can someone let me know where my wife and I need to hit up first for drink and eats that will kick off the AC experience like no other as we begin our trip. Is anyone going down around May 20? Thanks.

Actually your Hep A is fine, don't worry about Hep B. And in all honestly, you really didn't need Hep A.

Those shots are primarily for people going inland for long periods of time. If you're just a regular vacationer like most of us and going to AC for a week or so... just go and have fun. Leave your stateside worries at the departing airport... you can pick them up when you arrive back home. eek

The only concerns I had were going on the Maya Ruin trips into the mainland. Thanks for the info.

As someone who actually contracted Hep A (in Egypt, not Belize) I strongly recommend having the shots if there is the remotest chance that you could be exposed to it. But it is usually water-borne and if you drink the readily available drinking water you're most unlikely to have a problem anywhere in the country. Make sure you're innoculated against tetanus (lock-jaw) though.

You're arriving about 4pm ..... not sure if this is in Belize City or Ambergris Caye.....If it's BC, dont' expect the flights to AC to necessarily be on time - but they'll wait for you if the plane's not full, so let a baggage handler know that you want Tropic (or Maya) Air and then follow your bags. Time, you'll soon find out, is rather elastic in Central America. You'll have plenty of time. After you arrive at AC airport, take a taxi to wherever you're staying (you could ask the driver to stop at a store along the way where you could pick up a few things - they seem to stay open till about 9pm), check in and then find a place for dinner. If you're south of the cut, stroll into town. If you're north of the cut, your choices are more limited, but ask at your hotel. Take it easy. It will all be fine. Have a wonderful time!
