I noticed that back in January a member mentioned that the hand ferry was now operating 24 hours a day. Is that true for the summer months as well? We will be visiting again this July and will be staying north of the cut this time at Captain Morgans. Looking for any advise as to the need for a golf cart rental versus using other means to travel back and forth to town.

The ferry currently operates 24 hours per day. It costs more after 8pm.

Lefty - what week in July are you going? We'll be there July 3 - 10, and we're probably going to rent a cart for the week just for the convenience. I know a few other people going this same week and they plan to do the same.

Jamblu - We will be there from July 3 - July 17.
Are you also staying at Captain Morgan's? I imagine we will rent a golf cart for some of the time. We plan on doing a lot of diving and fishing. Have you ever stayed north of the cut before?

Yeah, we're staying at Captain Morgan's; we stayed up there last year too. Generally speaking, you can catch a ride on their boats to and from town during the day, but they do not run on set times so a little flexibility is sometimes needed. Now that the ferry runs 24/7, I'm going to look into renting a cart for the week since I like to go to town to eat.

We just stayed there - look for my trip report and pics later today. I would recommend a golf cart if you plan on going back and forth to town. You can somewhat rely on their boats going back and forth throughout the day - but at night it was more difficult.
