Howdy all,
I am planning a trip to AC this September... honeymoon. But I've found that many places (resorts) are closed for the entire month! Is that a bad sign? Is September a bad time to go?
Among the places shut down are: Mata Chica, Capricorn, & Journey's End. Luckily, Portofino will be open, and it looks really nice. I've read good things about it.
Does anyone have any experience visiting in September? If so, do you have any warnings or reassurances to offer?
Thanks very much!

We've been on AC twice in September - hot and humid, low tourist season. Consequently, a lot of places close up and wait out the area's least favored visitor - hurricanes. Likewise, some places spend the time painting and cleaning up prior to the peak winter season.

Obviously hurricanes don't hit every year, but, when they do hit, they kick butt. So, would I honeymoon in San Pedro in September, probably not, because that's the last getaway I'd want ruined by weather. If you're set on going, buy travel insurance.

Nephew from Wi. and his bride honeymooned in Belize, mainland and Ambergris last September.
No weather problems. They did the caves hiking and diving.

Ya never know in Sept or Oct. Buy the travel insurance!

A lot of places close at that time also to let the staff leave for the national holidays.

io went in early sept 2000 and stayed at JE. the mosquitos were UNBEARABLE, and i've been to AC 4 times. up north was just AWFUL! try caribe island resort down south, my favorite place. it is secluded & they have free transport into town & back, plus the beach is gorgeous, and they have kayaks & water toys, and their own bar & restaurant.(sorry chloe) here's my pics from last year, again!
