Do the bugs only come at night or do we need to spray during the day too? We have 10 bottles of Deet and 2 of Seasafe, so should be all set. We're a family of 4 and have been taking the double doses of vitamin B. I'm curious to see if it helps like some Boarders suggest. The mosquitos LOVE our daughter and have chewed her to peices our last 2 trips to Cozumel. We'll be in Belize 6/3-6/16 (O'My goodness, I just realized that's next week !) We're doing Chaa Creek and Tikal prior to AC. We'll post our finding when we return. We are SO excited. Thanks, Kathy

Will be curiuos to know if the vitamen B helps too, missed that suggestion. My husband thinks I just need to drink more beer!

Hi Goin Belize,
I'm at Caribe and also allergic. Since Wednesday, I have not gotten the first bite. We have mosquito magnets and we spray, so you should be fine. There are some bad areas, so just be prepared.......
See you soon!
Vicki

Is this just a bad season or do you think it will be the same at Christmas when we go? Have got my list of things to pack against the munchers including the double dose Vitamin B1 suggested on an earlier post. If anybody's going over Christmas you should be OK though because while I'm around they'll just home in on me - as said before, I'm my husband and son's repellant! Pretty miserable though as I come up all over in welts - I ended up in tears when we went to Sanibel Island in Florida last year as I looked so awful!

We just got back from Caribe and we did get bites - out where you wait for the cab. I just used the Skintastic (tropical scent smile ) and it was fine. We ate at Jerry's Crab Shack in town and on the outside tables they supplied more Skintastic. Mosquitos find me very tasty, but just a spray all over of the Skintastic and I was fine.

I am hesitant to use DEET except when nothing else will work. Read a great tip in a parent magazine...
Use a lotion sunscreen first and put it on thick. Then apply the DEET over the top of the lotion. The lotion provides a bit of a barrier so the DEET doesn't soak into your skin, and you still get the benifits of the DEET.

Of course that means I'm hauling around twice as many bottles, but I figure it is worth it for less exposure to the bug spray.

We are spending 3 days at Jaguar Paw Jungle lodge, should we be getting the malaria meds? We arrive June 28.

One caution about DEET. We use a lot of it here in the Georgia swamp. It is very corrosive and will take the finish off of wood, just like paint remover. If this stuff is on your hands, be real careful with plastics, metals and wood finishes such as on that $500 digital camera. I've got a thousand dollar shotgun that used to be real nice:-(

CrackerLarry - Any suggestions on other products, or just use care and caution with the DEET?

Ant one heard if there is West Nile in the area with all those mosquitos? Is malaria medicine pretty much recommended?
