M Andries, hope you don't mind if I piggyback on your thread. I have a very similar question and hated to post it when this one was already out there. Are there any snorkel trips from AC out to some of the more remote cayes? Any guides you would suggest that would go to places other than Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley? Would like an amazing snorkeling trip and have recently read that Hol Chan and Shark Ray are a little bland. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. ~Jenn

This is just my humble opinion, but after coming for the last 5 years I always urge people to not miss Mexico Rocks. It's up off the north end, but often passed on for Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley. It's rather shallow in spots, but oh! this is a snorkle spot not to be missed.
As for diving, there are some great local dives, but I really enjoyed the wall dives out at Long Caye/Lighthouse Reef near the Blue Hole. Enjoy!

Badco is right. Mexico Rocks and Tres Cocos are excellent snorkel trips and very few people. I've seen lots of sea life and the coral is absolutely amazing at these 2 snorkel spots.

Mexico Rocks is the second of two patch reef systems in the country of Belize.

The Belize Academy of Diving is located within the Mexico Rocks boundaries at Costa Maya Reef Resort.

They also offer the Mini-Blue hole dive which is also in Mexico Rocks as well as snorkeling.

Costa Maya Reef Resort offers kayaks and gear for a easy paddle out to Mexico Rocks and the Barrier Reef.

Melissa, I had a feeling we were asking about the same thing. Thanks for the confirmation on Hol Chan and Shark Ray. If you get there before me (and you probably will since we'll be there in November), let me know where you decided to snorkel. And Congratulations Mommy! smile

Thanks everyone for the great info! Sounds like Mexico Rocks and Tres Cocos get the thumbs up. I'm getting ready to check out the Belize Academy of Diving.

govikes - does Tulu do this trip? Thanks again.

When your husband arranges his dives, you might want to ask the dive shop to let you know when they are going to places with shallow reef crests so you can join them and snorkel. But, if you get seasick (and can't take Bonine when pregnant?) not such a great idea...

When you snorkel off a dive boat, you'll get very little handholding (I was dropped off at 1/2 Moon Caye's Western Beach and they came back for me an hour later - which I was fine with - but some are not).

I have been raving about snorkeling the Blue Hole since getting back from Lighthouse Reef - but its a long, rough trip if you can't take medication.

Jenn, yes Tulu does Mexico Rocks and Tres Cocos - he enjoys that trip more than Hol Chan I think, simply because there usually isn't anyone else up there. That is a great trip to do a BBQ with him; he'll put a couple of lines in for you as you toodle up there and then usually dives for some conch/lobster (whichever is in season). Then will take you to one of the resorts (I can't think of the one he went to the last couple of times I was there) up that way, grills the catch with some other fixings while you get to relax at the bar/swim in their pool. It's a wonderful way to spend the day! Hopefully will be able to find a couple of other people at BC's on Sunday that would like to do that trip! laugh
