Can anyone tell me if a passport is required to enter Belize from the US, or is a birth certificate sufficient like in Mexico?
Also, if a passport is required is there any way of getting one on short notice? Have some friends wanting to go in just 4 days but they don't have passports.
Thanks!

Yes you need a passport.
No it won't happen in 4 days.

It might be possible to get it on short notice, for an additional fee. Check with your local "passport office".

A passport generally takes 30 days-you can apply in person and it has been known to be issued in one day but this is only normally done in a true emegency-an interesting statistic is that only 4% of Americans have passports-in Europe over 65% have passports-the airlines will not let you take your seats if a passport is not presented.

Check these two web sites. But you better hurry.

PS: Pedro, isn't it interesting that 65% of Europeans want to get the hell out of there and only 4% of US do.

You will need a passport. In my experience (my husband had to get "rush" service), the quickest they can issue a passport is 2 weeks and there is an additional charge.

As you can see jford, you can get a lot of information from this board, just don't assume it is all correct.

I believe I was able to get one in five business days, but that was really pushing it.

ahh, I wasn't aware of "Emergency" service. I thought "Rush" was the best they could do. Guess I learned something new today! smile
