Race Announcement

"best of Belize" solo canoe Marathon
November 5TH, 6th & 7TH, 2004
"Nobody Said It Was Gonna Be Easy"

Course:
18 miles from Caye Caulker to San Pedro (men's division) . San Pedro to Caye Caulker (female division).

Vessel and Equipment:
"Sit- on- top" solo sea kayaks, suitable for big waves and speed these will be provided but first come first served. (Some kayaks are better than others, so register early).

Paddler must bring:
Single blade paddle
PFD
Hydration & food for the race.
Sun screen, minimum 15 SPF recommended. Proper clothing.

Qualifying:
Must be able to swim. Must be registered by October 24th, 2004.

Fees:
$75 per paddler includes after race BBQ. Does not include water taxi fare.
*$90 includes Designer T-shirt.
*Must indicate when registering.

Accommodations:
There will be free camping facilities available for racers and families, also rooms from $15- $100 U.S. night. It is during slow season so no reservations shall be necessary. If you would like assistance in finding an appropriate room, please contact Allie at 604-3553 or Wendy at 226-0247.

Safety:
Escort boats with trained safety staff will follow racers.

Prizes:
Men and Women
1st place- Top of the Line ZRE fiberglass paddle with case & *Cash.
2nd place- ZRE Recreation Blade & *Cash
3rd place- $200.00
4th place- $100.00
*Amount to be determined.

kayaks are usually paddled with double blade paddles, not single blade paddles.

My thought exactly. How are you gonna make any tracks using a single blade paddle? It'd take all day??

"must be able to swim". Like, if you are way ahead, can you make a snorkel stop? Actually, this whole thing sounds like a real hoot for the competitive spirits out there. I would like to have the Belikin concession at the finish line. smile
