Are there several companies on AC that do tours to the Mayan temples? Would we be better off to book a day through Banana Beach where we are staying or with a company?

Just take a wald up Front street and Middle Street there are several places that offer the tours and in various different fashions. Tropic Air even offers one to Tikal in Guatemala. There are several in Belize to choose from but probably the two most popular for first timers are Al Tun Ha and Laminai. Both can be done on a day drip via boat. Both nice trips.

The tour companies in town are great and the girls at Monkey business at bananas even greater!

Have them take care of bookinh your trips, they will cost the same and they will know the prefect guide for you.

The best part is that if anything goes wrong the girls will be able to help since they booked it, they have more leverage with the tour companies. Also it all goes on your room bill.

Daniel with Tunisia tours and his son Josh did a fantastic job for us! He had an incredible amount of knowledge and passion for the jungle, wildlife and the ruins. Knows the latin name ,common name, local name, habits of every critter we came across. He could also spot a 2 inch bat in a tree while running 50 mph up the river. Another plus is that he had several pairs of Nikon binoculars so everyone could get a view of whatever he was showing us.

It was a long day, leaving the dock at 0700 and back at 1900, but it was the highlight of our trip. Also the breakfast he served on the boat was the best we had all week. Free beer and rum punch for the 3 hr. trip home. Highly recommended!!!

Excuse me, that was supposed to be Tanisha, not Tunisha. We booked through the Xanadu BTW.

Check out the trips offered by TropicAir at tropicair.com. We did the Lamanai tour. It was fantastic. They flew us (just the two of us) 25 minutes to a small strip near Orange Walk, we were the first visitors of the day so we had our own boat and guide. The river tour was great, Lamanai was amazing, we had a good lunch and were back in AC by 2pm.

In almost all cases your hotel/resort will have arrangements with local tour operators.

Last November I stayed at Hamanasi in Hopkins, they arranged a day trip to Cahal Pech and Xunantunich.

In June I stayed at Tony's in Corazol, they arranged a trip to Lamanai. Like USNA73 said, the river tour is great and the site is incredible.

In August/Sept. I'm staying at Holiday Hotel in SP and they have arranged a Tikal day trip through TropicAir.

I would say check with the folks at Banana Beach, going to an agency may add additional costs. Enjoy!
