First time to A/C. Is it better to stay at a resort where they can offer tours, OR stay in a private home and try to figure out tours myself?
Will I find may phamplets and such when I get there or are thing pretty much word of mouth?
Do I need to book things before my trip or should I be able to get things done after we get there?
I think I'm stressing myself way out about this trip!!!!!!
I definitely will need to relax!!!

Either accomodation works based on your preference. Book the tours when you get there and don't worry to much about it. There will be plenty of options when you arrive in San Pedro. You might want to try Caribe Island Resort - the managers are from South Georgia (Moultrie) and will take care of ya'll. (Saw you were from Tallahassee and she is a big time Seminole's fan.)

Newbie here also. We are renting the Palms house for a week in May. One of the few private houses with a private pool... Not all of us are "beach types" so a pool is a must.

There are advantages and disadvantages to renting a private home. If you are particulary concerned about having tours and diving set up for you on site, would advise a resort. Sounds like you are a little nervous about this. An advantage of course is privacy in a private home. You really won't have a problem setting things up yourself, you can book thru all the resorts even if you are in a private home. The caretakers at these homes are usually quite knowlegable and will guide you to where you might go. For your first visit think you might be less stressed at something like Robert E. suggests. It's all at your fingertips.

The Palms is not a private house. It is a condo type but does have a pool. Perhaps we are not talking about the same place.

We rented a private home the first time we stayed on AC (actually the 2nd time because the first time we were only on Island for about 30 minutes). The next several trips we stayed at Caribe Island Resort which is VERY nice!
If you do plan to stay at a private home make sure there is someone on site that is "in charge" so any problems can be fixed or resolved right away! Also, wherever you stay request your fridge be supplied with staple items so you can relax ASAP upon arrival!
Have a GREAT trip!
