I just got back in from caye caulker.. holy smokes.. when
I arrived there yesterday I just got goose bumps all over and could not
beleive that is my home.. debris, fallen light posts wires garbage.... all
over the place. when I saw my family and other peoples faces I was so
overwhelmed and happy. I have been taking pictures to bring back to you..
Bob Spagnolo is returnigh tomorrow and he should have lots of pics for you
Marla Burgess is homeless. I remember someone on the message board asking..
she is still staying at the school. ..
the Bishop came over for a mass and he said he usually makes his sermon
jubilandt but this time he just had tears to share with them.. when he saw
how much devastation the caye suffered..
Elma Novelo report.. the house shook.. the wind blew and it sounded like a
war was going on outside... the kids were frightened and so were we the
adults.. during the calm some people came outside and her husband Rico
Novelo went to take food over to his daughter house for some friend..
suddenly a gust of wind came up out of nowhere and a piece of zinc came
crashing down and hit him right in the back.. and there went the plate of
food.. the lull lasted for a few hours and then when it all started up
again... it was terrible and even more when they finally came out and saw
all the damage that was done.. and the cost of restoring everythign again..
about 50% ofg what I have seen and heard of people are homeless and
everyone who still had their house standing still lost a lot as the rain
was impossible to stop from coming in.. zincs were torn off.. houses are
leaning or down...
Ms. Pascuala Gongora & family, Dora Badillo, Amparo Marin, Marla Burgess,
Ms. Ali, are some of the few that I know for definite homeless.. will be
getting more names and other info for definite tomorrow for you.
Some people have rented generators from private personel and so that has
helped a bit with preseving some food.. today everyone was washing and
washing and wasing by hand.. their hands had blisters as most are use to
machines.. back to the good old method..
The weather has been cooperating and the sun is very hot.. we had a small
shower today but that was over in a jiffy.
The Brits and Belize soldiers , red cross and other people have been out
there hleping out as well. the Northern fisheries had sen t out food
supplies. and the electricians are working hard to try to restore and clean
up wires and put up back the light posts.. you can hear power saws going
all day as trees are being cut..
Well.. hope this will give people and idea of what is going on and hope you
get pics from Bob.. I will bring mine in as soon as I get there on Friday..
Oh Tina's Backpack whatever is still standing.. don't know about the outside.
Well.. take care and will wait to hear from you.
