Hi all, thanks for maintaining such an awesome source of info.

We're coming soon - 9/2-9/7, and will be doing a lot of snorkeling. We were there last December and the water was COLD, perhaps unusually so. I see water temps average ~84 in September, but am wondering what it's really like right now, and whether I should pack a shorty.

Also - if you had to choose your favorite 3-4 snorkel sites (day trip-able), where would they be? Tour operator recommendations would be welcome too.

Thanks!

Just got back a few days ago and the water is fine. The local news said about 84-85 degrees. Enjoy!

Just got back on the 17th and found the water very warm 84 to 85 is a good guess. The water clarity was excellant and found alot of new growth of sponge especially in the Mexico Rocks area. I like that area even though the water is a little deeper there because I often get to see schools of squid. They are great to follow and watch. Saw a small group of 4 that looked like a mother teaching her 3 youngsters what to do next, it was great to watch. I also like hovering over some of the large coral formations and looking deep into them to see all of the activity going on in there. There are so many of the large sea urchins among the corals it is a wonder that they are not being harvested for their food qualities. I did not the lack of large schools of the larger fish such as Yellowtails and Trigger and Angelfish. Snorkeling has improved alot since Hurricanes Mitch (who dumped alot of sand on everything) and Keith (who helped push it off I guess coming from the other direction). It is good to see all of the new growth in the corals and especially the sponges.

I returned on August 13th. The water was 86F at 60 feet deep, about 81F at 110 feet deep and a completely bathtub warm 90F at the surface.
