I have been reading this message board most of the afternoon and have been learning so much from you all re: what to see, do and where to go in our first trip to AC. Four of us are planning to stay for 7 days - 3rd thru 10th.
The only problem is...we live near Ft. Lauderdale and pesky Frances is threatening our departure from Miami on Friday!!!
My mind was already on the sunset cruise on Saturday to hear the music and watch the sunset, then the barbeque at BCs on Sunday and of course, all the diving we can take.
Oh how I hope Frances goes north soon ...
Set aside some dreamin' time...

Drive like heck up to Charlotte. Or to Jacksonville or Savannah, then take a flight to Charlotte. This storm is looking ugly. My prediction is no way will you fly out of South FL on Friday.

With all things working against us that morning we managed to defy all and get on board our plane to Belize.
1. Hurricane Frances was approaching our homes in South Florida. 2. American Airlines called to tell us our flight to Belize City was cancelled as the Miami airport was closing at noon and our flight was scheduled for 1 p.m. 3. Got 4 seats on the 11 a.m. flight to Belize – no problem! 4. Got to Miami airport 2 hours before flight departs. Took 20 minutes to find a parking spot as lots of people who live in the area park their cars in the garages to protect them when hurricanes are coming to town. 5. Stood in the world’s longest line for International flight check-in and inched along with all other passengers evacuating South Florida. 6. Got to ticket counter with only 20 minutes to spare before departure (American folks periodically checked the lines to move people up who had the earliest departures and no one seemed worried about us making the flight so we kept inching along.) 7. American agent at counter tells us the gate has closed and is no longer taking baggage. We are four divers. But – they could get us on a flight with our bags in 2 days. Agent points out nearby supervisor for us to plead our case – quickly. 8. Supervisor springs into action – gets bag tags, a cart, boarding passes and zips the bags through the TSA screening and tells us to run to our gate which is in the NEXT concourse. 9. We run through the two concourses to arrive at TSA screening and 2 of us get stopped for random body search. We tell them we have 10 minutes before our flight departs…they laugh and take their time. 10. The other two run to the gate and ask the American agent if they are still boarding for Belize. She says yes and keeps on working on her terminal. The two look around at all the people seated in the area and decide they must not have boarded yet. 11. Other two come running up to join them. We sit on floor for 5 minutes when we hear our names called over the PA to go to the desk agent. 12. Agent politely asks if we would like to go to Belize today to which we replied “yes” (with quizzical looks on our faces). She tells us all the other passengers were seated and says they didn’t plan to leave without us and opens the security door. 13. Plenty of room on board and we all take seats in exit rows and stretch out for a peaceful 2-hour flight to Belize. When the flight attendant goes by – we each order two drinks to start our trip! And yes, our baggage all made it, too.
Hope this isn’t too long – I’ll put the best part in another message.
