A little help please...will be visiting with family over the New Years holiday. Very much interested in catching some kicking Punta bands. Saw very cool live drumming at the Sunset in Placencia, several years ago - next time in Placencia - Sunset was gone. Jaybirds was the place for the Punta rock. Have never been to San Pedro. Is there a pacticular place known for live local music ? Let me know - thanks !

Crazy Canucks, Sharks Bar or the Black and White Reggae Bar for true Belizean music such as Punta or Brukdown

DandeMan, You can always count on Crazy Canucks Monday night. Sharks Bar was recently sold and is undergoing extensive renovations and is supposed to be open in November, so hopefully it will be by the time the New Year kicks in. Captain Morgan's has a thing on I think Tuesdays, with local crafts and music. Remember, Punta Rock originated in Dangriga way back in the 70es, the first Punta Rock Band was called "The Turtle Shell Band", and is based in traditional Garifuna music. Since there is a lot more Garifunas in the South, your chances of catching live drumming is greater there then here on the island. But you will be here in high season and hopefully some drumming will be happening then. There are some great websites about Punta Rock!
