Just how bad (and I don't mean naughty) are the bugs, no-seeums, mosquitoes, etc. in October? I'll be packing Deep Woods Off. Will that be enough?

We took 100% deet we bought at a sporting goods store - It worked pretty well, but I still got bites. My husband - who never gets bitten - also got bites. Everything you've read about the bites being worse at dusk was accurate - they didn't seem bad at all during the day unless we were somewhere w/ lots of vegetation. The deep woods stuff is 25% deet - I don't know if the stronger stuff makes a difference or not - it should 'cause it really stinks!

It's been my understanding that products with higher percentages of DEET don't repel insects any better, it just lasts longer. So, what you use should depend on how long you'll be out and about. The really strong preparations will ruin the finish on jewelry and other such things, so be careful how you use it.

We did notice some mosquitos on our trip a couple of weeks ago. They certainly weren't awful, not as many as sitting on our deck at home during the summer. I noticed several of the beach bars had cans of OFF on the counter for customer use.
