My husband bought a couple of cubans at the shop at Banana Beach hotel. $20 U.S. each. He thinks they were legit, but is of the general opinion that other cigars are better. He also brought along a few of his favorites.

Nothing is better than the real thing. A good cigar is a smoke, a good cuban is a walk through the forest, with twists and turns. Try Canada or the UK for a good Cuban. In Cuba at the goverment stores a box will sell for more than $200us, so if it cost less somewhere else.....think about it.

Why is it that you people sometimes like to pass on the worng information???? The Monkey Business Shop at Banana Beach has the best cuban cigars on the island and they are $10.00US for each "torpedo", $8.00US for the "delicias" and $12.00US for the "esplendidos". If you know cuban cigars, you will know what Iam talking about. By the way, they are Legit!!!!

Generally, those that say they're made in the Dominican Republic are legit. And, IMO, they're usually better than the legit or non-legit Cubans.

Cubans, once again IMO, are over-rated. There are good cigars from several countries and the perception that Cubans are the "best" is false. I had a couple of enjoyable Costa Ricans while in San Pedro.

I was just in Cozumel and the lying cigar-sellers there have multiple ways to "prove" that their Cubans are real, including counterfeit box seals. Some of the non-Cuban Cubans aren't that bad. wink

I've had a few cubans, I suppose some were legit and some weren't, and I do prefer the Dominicans also. To each their own.

Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt

CatMot & Bobber - I'm not a cigar smoker, but that was my point, in general my husband thinks Cubans are overrated and that cigars from other places are better.

Karma - don't know what wrong info you are referring to, but we were there in September and my husband was charged $20 US for each of the two cubans he bought at Monkey Business. I'm not sure what size he bought - as stated earlier, he thought they were legit and was quite satisfied w/ his purchase.

Not an expert but I was in Havana last year and went to several cigar shops and factories and never saw a Cohiba in a glass tube.
I purchased some loosies in BZ from this guy that was recommended to me by the lodge I stayed at.

I gave away all his business cards so I dont have an address or phone. He has a small shop across from the Radison if I remember correctly and carries several brands from Cuba as well as other countries. He also maintains that the ones in tubes are counterfit.
