The tan is fading but the memories are still bright and some day I
will get my official PADI cards in the mail to replace the temps I
have now. When I had my OW after my second full day, I went for the
advanced and had it in two more days. In the past it has been hard for
me to look past Mexico for vacations. Now it will be hard to look
past San Pedro, and not just for the diving. I love the idea of a
place where the owner of the hot chi-chi restaurant in town comes to
work barefoot and the street hustlers still smile and say hello when
they know you aren't going to buy. I love the idea of a hotel on the
beach for $25.00US per night with clean sheets and fresh towels, a
gorgeous smiling maid, and a deli/bakery where johnnycakes and coffee
is a couple bucks for breakfast and where the name of the place is
spelled differently on the door than it is on the window. I was
lucky. My timing allowed me to learn about the Garifuna people and
the exuberant drum driven call and response of their music. I was
lucky enough to swim with wild bottlenose dolphins, as well as leopard
ray, southern ray, moray, shark, squid, octopus and too many
brilliantly colored fish to ever know all their names. Gracious people,
beautiful island, great food, great diving: I think I'll do it again.
Special thanks to Chris @ Casa Picasso for the kind email in response to my question about "Threes". See you next time.
