If you just want to chill, are more into nature, than go north. If you want to be able to get to San Pedro town easily, stay south. If you stay north, you will have to rely on water taxis, or perhaps golf carts if not too far north, to get yourself to town. It is beautiful north. If you want to be where the action is, to sample all the great restaurants, and want to enjoy the night life, then south would be better. I love both north and south, it all depends on what kind of experience you are after. To me, there are no wrong choices on AC. Have a great time.

I would agree with dbdoberman, other than I feel that a first timer should stay south. You can spend so much time walking the town and checking out everything that staying south of the cut has a big advantage. Jan and I now stay north of the cut because of the higher level of peace and quiet we have there. We can still go into town whenever we want by boat or cart but nore and more just enjoy chilling on the beach. Have a great experence.
