About 9 years ago my husband and I did a trip to Rocky Point. Last Feb we tried to do the same thing. The people we booked with ended up going no further then Basil Jones. We had a good time. They cooked a fantastic meal on the beach. They said because of the hurricans boats had a hard time getting to Rocky Point. I latter found out this is not true. We will be there in Feb and would realy like to book a trip with someone. Has anyone made the trip and if so could you tell me with who?
Thanks
Denise

Basil Jones is the last cut you can get outside the reef to go to Rocky (also sometimes refered to as "Reef Point"). If the wind is up, it may not be possible to go thru the cut. On a calm day there is no problem going there and many boats do. With the price of gasoline as high as it is going all the way to Rocky Point can be costly. If your guide knows that is your prefernce and you are willing to compensate him for the extra cost of fuel as compared to staying inside the reef and going a shorter distance, you should have no trouble finding someone to take you there on any day the weather cooperates.

I have been in the Basil Jones, Robles and Coconut Coves/Beach (North of Rocky) at least 6 times in the last month. From Basil Jones Resort, where the last cut is in the reef, to Rocky point it does get tougher to travel due to the reef rock, especially at lower tide times. On a couple occasions we traveled outside the reef through the cut and in our boat it was quite a ride and certainly a wet one. An option, if the cost of gas isn't a real issue, is to go up the back side of the island, through the Boca Chica River, and back down from the north side. You skip the rough waters outside the reef and can hit the Rocky Point area from the north side. A boat captain I use charges $350/400 BZ per day for this trip and should you want his contact information feel free to email me.
