We booked a Casita at Victoria House for our honeymoon in April. The place looks beautiful and I have heard nothing but great things about it.

However, after thinking about the price ($260 per night + 10% service) we are starting to wonder if we would be just as happy at Banana Beach ($114/night) or in a state room (reg room) at VH ($170/night + 10% service). We can afford to do the casita at VH, but it would be a stretch. We plan to spend time SCUBA diving and snorkeling so we probably will spend quite a bit of time away from the hotel.

Does anyone have any advice on this? I know I am probably comparing apples to oranges, but I am trying to figure out how much nicer Victoria House is than Banana Beach (if at all). Is VH so much nicer than Banana Beach that it is worth it to pay over $1000 more for 6 nights in a casita at VH? or $438 more for a regular room at VH? Normally we wouldn't stay at a place like VH, but this is our honeymoon so we are considering it.

Dear Katiep,
Victoria House is a very upscale resort. Secluded and very romantic. They have a guest services director or activities coordinator who can book your dives and any other trips. The service is great. On the other hand, Banana Beach is beautiful and even though it is on a condo complex, it offer great service. Telephones in the rooms, and they also have a tour office called the Monkey Business Travel Shoppe, cute name ... the girls who work there are very friendly and accommodating. They also feature on of the best restaurants in town, El Divino, featuring Brazilian Rostisio (spelling?). All in all, both places are great, but if you ask me... I rather stay at Banana's specially because you are going to be diving and spending little time at the hotel. You could always go have dinner or lunch at VH...

Thanks everybody for the help. We decided to switch to Banana Beach. Victoria House looked amazing, but we will have more money for activities this way and based on what everyone has said about Banana Beach, I'm sure we will love it.
