Just a heads-up regarding our family's (2 adults, 4 children) recent stay at Coconuts over Christmas.

The rooms were fine and the rates were reasonable.

What we didn't expect was the evening entertainment -- live music right outside our rooms late into the night two of the three nights we were there.

Quite literally there was a drummer not more than 12 feet from the door to one of our rooms -- not what we needed after spending the day on the 12-hour Lamanai trip.

We were told subsequently that this is not uncommon at Coconuts, though we certainly weren't warned about it when we booked our rooms.

Obviously it's their property and if they want to run a hotel and a nightclub in the same small patch of ground that's their business.

But please don't let it be a surprise to the guests!

I think this is a valid and reasonable observation. As this is not isolated to Coconuts, and in consideration of the various wants and desrires of people visiting AC, it suggests a good avenue of inquiry for which one may not consider.

PineyPower, I experienced the same problem at Coconuts. I had enjoyed staying there when there was a small beach front Palapa Bar that Margie and Ada ran. They remodeled, built the huge bar and the entertainment came with it. I ended up leaving 2 days early back in 2003 (I forfeited my prepaid room). I have since stayed elsewhere - Mata Rocks satisfied my needs - although it is a bit further from town.

Right Gay, I almost forgot that! It supposed to be on the top floor. I can't imagine anyone getting any sleep at all staying there. As a matter of fact, I have wanted to stay at Corona del Mar but have not because it's right next door to the chaos. Too, too bad.

Gela, I always stay at Woody's and have never noticed any noise from Coconuts (I suppose if you stay on the side closest to them you might, but those are the apt/suites and I always just get a regular room).

Does anyone know, particularly those that were at Coconuts over Christmas, if there is any apparent remodeling going on?

Govikes, thanks - I just might try Woody's, however, for my trip in May, I'll be staying at Xanadu laugh

Gela, its funny but until Pineypower posted, I've never even thought or noticed any noise/chaos from staying next to Coconuts. I just never would want to stay there now that it's changed cuz its all cluttered up and it seems as tho they took the ocean view away from all the rooms by putting in the pool and bar area. I do still have to stop in for drinks once in awhile to see Margie, but I don't spend the bar time there like I used to when the little bar with Margie and Ada was operating.

Thanks for the posts. Good to know we're not (totally) crazy.

Ilandhoper, did not notice any construction activity, supplies, etc. at Coconuts over Christmas.

Did run into a couple of folks staying next door (place to the north, forget the name) who were also grumbling about the noise.
