Those sound like wonderful tours. Is there a discount for a 11 year old. It would be quite an expensive day for a family of four!

Not sure about discounting, but does not hurt to ask. With a family of four, you might also consider doing some of these BEFORE you hit AC and save some bucks.

Spend a few days on the mainland - it's quite different! Get to know Belize.

Just an option, not the norm:

Water taxi to Belize $US25 r/t pp.

1. Check out Old Belize Museum, my wife and kids loved it Old Belize Museum
You'll need a quick taxi ride (4 miles out of BC).

2. Goverment House aka House of Culture, former residence of the British Governer General, the Queen stayed here.

3. Museum of Belize, formerly Her Majesty's Prison. Very kewl tour! Great exhibits including a remaining portion of the old prison.
Museum of Belize

4. St. John's Cathedral, Mosquito King's once were anointed here. (next door to Government House).

Other ideas: Belize City

SIN

I think, actually know, that you could save some real money by doing what SIN suggests. Water taxi to Belize City, then hop on a bus, you can walk to the bus station from the water taxi. I would think that the Belize Zoo would be a great option if you are travelling with an eleven year old, about an hour from Belize City. Lots of tours going from San Ignatio, cheap hotels and food too, so you might want to consider at least two days on the mainland. When I first came to Belize I used to hire a taxi driver for the day and ask him to take me to the places he enjoyed. As far as I am concerned a great way to see the country and to get to know some local people and spots!

A wonderful trip best done from San Ignacio is to visit the wet cave Actun Tunichil Muknal. It can also be done as a day trip from San Pedro. And Xunantunich is only a Bz$5 cab ride from SI.
