The resort I will be staying at uses Ambergris Divers for their dive operation. Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with Ambergris Divers they will share?

Thanks

lots of comments - have you done a "search" - upper right?.

And you can book anyone on island - nearly all will come pick you up on your dock.

Our experience was not too good. We had not done any diving before. The resort dive went well and enjoyed it a lot. The next day we went for a 1 tank dive and were put in a boat with 5 PADI certified divers and taked outside the reef. There was only 1 dive master for all of us and things didn't go too well. I don't think that we will us them again but it might have been an isolated case with them and they might be great. Take it for what it is worth.

D-I-T-T-O both lines...

Having said that, I found them about #3 of many, many....you could do a lot worse.

Having dove with Brion and Junior at Protech, and also with Roberto before he was with Ambergris Divers, I was surprised to hear that you were unsatisfied. All three individuals were exceptional dive masters. I haven't dove with Amigos so I have no comment. There are many good
dive shops on the island. Bottom Time is a great dive shop, and Rudy Duran is a great dive master. BT also does beach barbeques and snorkle trips. Look under "goods and services" for contact information. Have fun!

I used Amigos del Mar during Thanksgiving week and they were great. I highly recommend them.

Geez, I leave for a while and somebody uses my moniker / pseudonym

Where you at in Idaho?

I don't think it really matters that much what dive op you use, the diving at Ambergris Caye is mediocre at best

I dove with blue hole back in october and had a ball! Robby and brian are awesome they will show you all kinds of neat marine life underwater and watch you very closely. They are very friendly. They also operate deep penetration adventure tours.
catchy name eh?

Idaho_diver, sorry to use the same "moniker/pseudonym." I had no idea I was moving in on your turf. I will let you keep the creepy blinking eye thing all to yourself. Who knows maybe I'll create a new name.

I live in Rexburg, where are you from?

I hope the diving is a bit better than mediocre. It has to better than diving in Idaho. I use to teach scuba in Hawaii and ever since I can't get very excited to dive in a cold river or lake. I would rather fly fish in cold water than dive in cold water.

Mediocre at best??? I have dove around the world...it may not be Palau but the formations, swim thrus, large sea life and comfortable temperatures of the water qualified it for me as way more than mediocre...My brother lives in Rexburg, trying to get him and my nephew to try diving, were you certified there or elsewhere?

Suzanne0918, I am glad to hear I am not in for a mediocre experience. Thanks for the pick me up. After not diving blue water for years, I am ready.

I did my training in Utah, Washington, and Hawaii. The only training available in Rexburg is through BYU-Idaho Continuing Eduation. They contract with Inland Scuba out of Idaho Falls. Tell your brother and nephew to take up scuba. There are several divers in the area they can hook up with for trips etc.

Don't worry about the "original" "Idaho(underline)Diver", he's got a wart on his butt from a diving trip he did in Belize years ago....a search for his posts will show a disturbing habit of slamming Belize diving in general.....without having done much of it.

//ambergriscaye.com/message/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=007381;p=1#000011 is just one thread.

Lots of people on this board with good advice about diving Ambergris Caye and Belize in general...the "original" potato_diver is not one of them.

I see I haven't lost my touch of raising the hackles on many of you. I'll see if I can keep stirring the pot on this one.

Seriously, Idaho Rex, we did have a lousy time in the water, has anybody here mentioned to you you are getting into the windy season? Also keep in mind that AC is their favorite place to go, many pass on advice that don't even dive, so anybody who says a bad word is the bad guy.

I too have dove all over. If you equally weight the diving with the people/location/weather/food/value/ambience...and on and on, (you are only down for a few hours at best out of 24) this is very very hard to beat.
Happy Trails.

OK, it looks like I opened a can of worms that have been stewing for awhile (woops). Thanks for all the comments, pro and con. My wife and I will be on Ambergris in April. I am sure we have a great time even if it is windy etc.

Amigos Del Mar is the most consistently recommended dive operator on the island,If you dove with them you would find out why.
As Klcman said do the search and you'll find out what I said is true.
Idaho you will have agreat time with most operators if you are a good diver.
Ohio diver myself, just relax and you'll have a blast!!!

Idaho_diver, the problem is, you come up EVERY TIME with your negative crap when there is a diving related post...but you fail to tell people that you did ONE trip to San Pedro years ago, you had rough weather, you did't dive more than 2 miles away from the town center, you have spoken about holding onto things when you take photos and you never mention that what you post is JUST YOUR OPINION. Somehow you fail to leave all of that out each time you opinionate on the diving of Belize, 99.9% of which you haven't done. "Economical with the Truth" doesn't even begin to describe your posting style.

Idaho obviously went to the wrong places, at the wrong time, with the wrong people. Ambergris has given me some of the best diving I have experienced in the world (I have not dove the Great Barrier). Many other places have different marine life, and different adventures, but diving here has been incredible. Of course I have only been here 15 years, so I may not know what I am talking about. I personally do not recommend Ambergris Divers. There are several better outfits. I enjoy a smaller more personal operation like: http://www.divecharter.bz/

I haven't dove with the new business (www.divecharter), but Robbie is a fine young man and very good DM. He's also a lot of fun. I wish them all the very best.

I dove with Ambergris Divers back in 2002. I had no problem with them at all. This was my first ocean dive trip, but I was certified before I got there. I snorkeled at Shark-Ray Alley, dove Hol Chan, local dives and the Blue Hole/Half-Moon Caye trip with them. I enjoyed every minute.
