Hi everyone, I really enjoy all of your posts and have really learned so much from everyone!! I know this has been discussed before but what would be the best bug spray to bring and what percent deet should I be looking for? (not easy in Michigan in the dead of winter by the way!!!) As long as I am asking questions, where is the best and cheapest place to get Beer? We are staying at Exotic Caye and only have one more month before we are there....woo hoo!!!! What other things should we see and do while we are there? cool

Buy your beer at the Beer distributor so. of town by the grocery store
Best repelent 100% deet, Uncle bens or any other..I get the small non-aersol kind and keep a bottle in my pocket..in January (2 weeks) I think I used it 3 times...BTW you can buy it locally but you will pay , but you only need it at dusk or if you are in the mangroves

Lakegirl: I wouldn't bring bug spray down with you...one less thing to pack. Also, most of the bars/restaurants carry it, so on the chance that you do need it, you can use theirs. Or, if you absolutely have to have it, you can buy it. No big deal!

IMHO you need a suncreen and a bug spray, one of each for every person traveling with you. Therefore you are assured to enjoy your vacation in comfort.

I can't get the 95% DEET pump spray up here anymore. It got outlawed. Just another example of the government making sure we don't have the free will to "Off" ourselves. smile

If you are having trouble locating bugspray at your usual outlets (Walmart, or whatever) try a sporting goods store (fishing, hunting, hiking, camping-type places).

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

My understanding is that 100% Deet doesn't keep the bugs away any better than 20%, but it keeps them at bay for a longer period of time. Since that stuff can damage jewelry, peel off fingernail polish (not that I every wear any), and otherwise wreck havoc, why not use a lower percent if you're only out for a short while? Or if the bugs are only a problem at dusk? Jean

Don't forget it also melts plastics, burns sensitive skin, takes the finish off of wood. Nasty stuff!

Contact your local Avon lady and ask for "Skin-so-soft". Its way better on your skin & less greasy & nasty feeling than all the other spray stuff. We used it every day and no bites smile

Get your beer from the distributor

I've often wondered if WD40 would work as a bug off spray? It works for everything else.
