Have heard that there is a large fear of air-bourne diseases possibly happening on the Island.....Please let us know if that is a realistic possibility?? Have heard that people are making plans to take their families off the island. Is there any preventative actions happening if this is a true fear. ??????

What kind of airbourne diseases and where did you hear this?

Someone called us today, from the island, saying that even Fido's was only open for 2 hours on Saturday night, (their Hurricane opening night)?? because air-born diseases could be spread, in large groups of people. We are hoping that this is not true, & that people are just hearing possibilites & maybe just after what has happened to everyone down there, tempers & nerves are at their highest...???

I think the airborne diseases are called Harriers.

Medically speaking.....
Some people are affected by mold spores and mildew. Those are allergens...not diseases.
We have wet conditions so that could be possible.
Other than that the only airborne thing I know of is colds being passed mostly amongst family members from coughing and sneezing and being confined in close quarters.

I can get an air-borne "something" by going our to dinner or visiting the produce section in the market which, for some reason or another, attracts children with runny noses!
