will be leaving houston to visit sp 6/15-6/20 with a diver friend that wants to know if while diving, can he catch lobster and bring them back to our condo (the palms) to grill ourselves??
i tried the search, but couldn't really find a specific answer. and, we know not to touch anyone's traps.
sorry y'all, hate to be such a gringo and all, but just want to know the rules. we've eaten plenty, but never dove for them.

anyone going 5/20-5/25 or 6/15-6/20??

I believe that during those dates lobster season is closed, so no he can't catch lobster and take them back to the condo to grill.

It is illegal to take anything while diving with tanks, only when snorkeling.

and you have to have a licence which is only granted to Belizeans (cost 25bzd) and it only valid during lobster season which is currently closed -go to Portofino where they purchase lobster for export and are able to serve the unlucky creatures during the "off" season.
p.s. Portofino pay the gov't for this priveledge

Doesn't lobster season open on June 15 confused

Closed from Feb. 15 to June 15. I thought but I could be wrong.
If it is open, you will be able to eat Lobster and purchase it for your grill.

i know that lobster season opens on june 15th, so let me see if i have the rules right.
if he is snorkeling and sees some innocent little lobster skulking around, the only way he can catch it- is if he is belizean and has paid a fee??? (the guy, not the lobster)
or i find a place to buy it somewhere? he was just hoping to catch a couple while in the water.

btw, i'm going may 20-25 AND june 15-20.

Lobster season (when you can eat lobster, fresh or otherwise) starts June 15th. There is NO closed season where it is permitted to eat frozen lobster but not fresh, it's important to understand that closed season from February 15th-June 15th means NO LOBSTER EATING or stocking of lobster of any kind! This is to stop "stockpiling" which would erode the lobster population. Also it eliminates the temptation to buy lobster during the off season and say that it was caught during the open season...
There is no season for stone crab, its available year-round.
and there is more info at:

I hope I read and did this correct wink
mimi, don't snatch any lobsters smile

Johnboy, there is an overlap of seasons on conch and lobster cool
