Re: Picture of the Day - 01/16/06 05:08 AM

Just joined up and have no clue what I'm doing. So I decided to post a note here. I'm new to the board but not to the carribean. Many trips with my husband but none to Belize. We just booked a trip to Ambergris Caye @ Xanadu in late November. I would truly appreciate any info. We are not divers but love to snorkel and kick back into vacation mode upon arrival. We always love to appreciate the local food and people. Not really into anything except laid back.

I'm sorry but I think TOE JAM , just don't care to see bandages and such on toes, good tan tho..Kristi, I'd rather see your smile!
Posted By: Kristykins

Re: Picture of the Day - 01/21/06 11:07 PM

Honey, I can guarantee you there is NO toe jam, unless you're seeing some gunk out of the corner of your eyes.

I took this picture because this was my moment in time. Relaxing on the boat after snorkeling, watching the sunset go down on our last day in San Pedro. After 9 days of wearing fins, tromping through the sand, dancing at the nightclubs...these were my toes, frozen in time.

Feet say a lot about the road traveled.

If you don't like them, next time, feel free to keep right on scrolling smile

Re: Picture of the Day - 05/02/06 01:24 PM

02 May 2006: this photo really strikes a nerve in me. On my first SP visit, around Christmas of 1976, I found Sefi Paz, Jr., standing inside a hole-in-the-wall in the front of the Ambergris Lodge and dealing something deliciously close to Dairy Queen.

I still remember his cheerful "no hay" whenever he failed to have some goods ready to serve.

It was not until my 3rd visit, one year later, that I had the good sense to look inside the unimpressive entrance to Fido's - just across the side street to the south - and find Wil, Dale, and Chico serving booze and, more importantly, playing great music in that usual gathering place for all the local gringos and many of the musically inclined San Pedranos.

Re: Picture of the Day - 05/04/06 09:03 PM

todays pic, may 4, 2006, is a picture from the air of downtown San Pedro in 1959.

here is a larger version of that photo if you are interested. its quite detailed.

Re: Picture of the Day - 05/17/06 11:54 PM

Hey Marty -- thanks for using my photo!

I am sitting at a computer at Lavin Services, right next to Timmy's & across from Mata Rocks, catching up on my email. My sister, at her computer in Honolulu, wrote that one of my photos is today's Photo of the Day -- so of course I had to have a look. I was back at Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley again yesterday, 2 days before that, and also 4 days ago, so it's all fresh in my mind.

Tomorrow I go home, and will have the fun of sorting through my new collection of photos -- LOTS of them. This time I did a lot of exploring of the more outlying areas, seeing where the residents live. Also had a walk over/back on the new bridge. Barely a sign of where the ferry used to ply its way across the cut. A small structure is being built which I believe will sell snacks.

It was a wonderful day. More of a report in a few days.

The 28 June 2006 photo reminds me of my first night in San Pedro. Jerry McDermott (featured in the photo), his brother Corey, and I wound up drunk as skunks in the Paradise Bar.

The night ended with Jerry and Corey in a serious wrestling match (attempted fist fight - he he) after a bit of egging on by me during their discussion of some childhood events.

You can reach Curvin at 625-2628. He's getting ready to leave the caye for a couple of months so if time is of the essence, call him before he leaves.

Belizean Arts also sells his stuff. I'm glad you like his work. Not only is he a great artist, he's a nice nice person too! Hope you can get the painting of your dreams!!

Those were the days my friend ,......

I well remember 1981, Alan Forman, and the Land Rover too.

The Land Rover was owned and driven as a taxi by Marciano Salazar, Sr. - the father of Pete, Eiden, Mash, and Roque. It was the ONLY late at night transportation to Victoria House - that is, when you yelled "Marciano" long enough to wake him up - he he.

I wish I could wake him up one more time.

The Golden Frogs (Atelopus zeteki and A. varius) are national symbols of Panama, but are now rare, due to a disease that has virtually eradicated them in the wild. I saw them at a zoo in El Valle de Anton an hour or so west of Panama City. Your photo looks like them, though some I saw had black or dark blue bands on their backs ... and I'm no expert. I don't know the scale of this photo, but the Panamanian frogs are really very small.

(originally named for Queen Elizabeth I, the "Virgin Queen")

Know what Bubo means?

buzzzzzzz..Times up!
Bubo comes from the Greek "boubon" meaning groin or 'swollen groin'. ......
So this poor bird Marty photographed is named,
'Swollen Groin of the virgin Queen Elizabeth'

Re: Picture of the Day 4-7-2007 - 08/12/07 03:46 PM

elbert, with all due respect, there is a sad comment here for women everywhere.

i, like many less strong women who take up with controlling men, at times, have been each of the three marias, too.

we do what we have to do to survive.

my humble opinion.
Posted By: Marty

Re: Picture of the Day 4-7-2007 - 08/12/07 04:58 PM

men have similar roles too. and do what we have to do to survive. doesn't have to be sad.. can be a lil humorous also

Re: Picture of the Day 4-7-2007 - 08/12/07 09:04 PM

Do you have and pic's of you as # 3?
Just kidding smile

I can't agree its all over the same. I read about how the Amnesty International is working in Guatemala and Honduras to help the women there, and feel like its not Belizean women that are the abused in Belize its women from those two country's, brought or immigrated to Belize to serve as Whores and abused cheap labor.
The Guatemalan and Honduran economys create desperate people and some Belizeans prey on these people.
Its unfair to say its Men doing it to Women. Women to it to Women also, but the truth is the economy does it to people.

Good Jabriu Shot.
There is a nest on the the Northern river. The Lamani tour passes it. Its on the right hand side of the northern river just before arriving at the ruins.
Jabrui always build their nest atop the tallest tree and usually a tree on a hill, because of their nasty eating habits they are trying to escape the smell of rotten left overs falling from the nest.

Roseate Spoonbill look pretty from a distance but up close really and ugly bird always with its butt in the air feeding and making a grunting noise while they do it.
Ambergris Caye is inhabited by hundreds but they stay lagoon side most of the time. I've have seen them at the cut following a lot of rain.

Re: Picture of the Day - 09/26/07 03:28 PM

Ok this pic of the day pushed my button. Very very cool
The Yellow Crowned Night Heron
In the world of Aves from the family of Ardeidae is Nyctanassa violacea commonly known as The Yellow Crowned Night Heron.
It’s a resident breeder in Belize from Ambergris Caye to Punta Gorda this rare and unusual Heron is thriving, but it is seldom seen.
This stocky, black and gray nocturnal heron roosts camouflaged during the day in the salty mangroves and freshwater habitats of the mainland.
One of Bubbas many bird books says,’ at night they forage in the shallows. The males stand up to 24” tall and have a bold head pattern of black with white cheeks, red eyes and of course a yellow crown. The juvenile and female are brown with some thin white edges to the feathers.’
Another of his books says,’ Night Heron are crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk) and are nocturnal feeders.’ but I’ve seen them forage in the daytime during the nesting season, probably to feed extra mouths, they are requester.
They are strictly carnivorous and prefer crabs. Their long legs and neck allow them to forage in aquatic habitats such as Belize’s Caribbean shoreline behind the barrier reefs and along the banks of its many lagoons.
Bubba said there numbers are increasing in Belize and this is probably due to this country having placed one-fifth of its land mass in nature reserves many years ago.
If you’re an incidental birder and not willing to walk your flashlight at night along the secluded moonlit beach or lagoons side in search of this rarity, overcast days seem to be a break in the nocturnal behavior. You may discover them stalking Soya in the savannas or in the shade or the littoral forest. Soya is a local name for a terrestrial crab the birds eat. Local fisherman value them as a prize fish bait. I would have to call it a hermit crab that commonly takes up residents in empty Apple Snail shells, or what ever shell is available. The Night Herons bill is especially adapted for removing such an escargot delight or any substitute tenant.
Most Birders who find rare birds are looking for rare birds. A rarity hunter will be prepared with an intimate knowledge of the bird, its habits, likes, and dislikes. Chances improve as rare species tend to occur in specific habitats and only at certain times.

Elbert
Thanks for the info. Before the big bridge was built, when we had the pull ferry, there was a tiny little wooden bridge at the first turn in the road. This was before Reef Village or the school was started.
Because the pull ferry charged extra after 8:00 PM I made it a habit to get across just before then. My joy was that a Night Heron lived there at the little bridge. When I came up quietly, without my golf cart light on, I could watch here. Other wise she would fly up in front of me squawking loudly.
I miss her and all the other birds that used to live in the lagoon.

Is it possible that the incredibly large bird with a l-o-n-g neck that was extended as it flew a Stork? I buzzed over our heads so quickly as we came up the road in the Tres Cocos area that I couldn't get a good look at it.

Re: Picture of the Day - 09/27/07 02:06 AM

I may have seen her!! I was sitting on a picnic table down near the highschool one night. I was just being quiet and taking in the night when I sensed something out in the water. At first, I got a bit of a start and then I realized it was a heron feeding. I watched her for a long while before heading home to bed.

Iguana like any other meat has to be cooked properly, when done right it is delicious. But usually it is cooked like stewed chicken and does not have a lot of flavor of its own. Tough little critters and needs to be slow cooked to soften them up.

I have been snorkeling along my sea wall for the last couple of weeks. Two days ago I came across a lone Queen Angel fish that not only did not hide from me; she seemed curious and came out towards me. Then her behavior was such that I thought she might be guarding a nest. I want to get my digital still camera in the housing and try to photographer her.
I also saw, on two different days a small school of about 6 or 7 strange fish. The closest I can find in any of my books is Barbu? Anyone else seen these guys? Will try to shoot them too.

Re: Picture of the Day - 10/26/07 04:25 PM

Marco Gonzales most probably was an island unto itself.
Famous Belizean archaeologist Herman Smith told Bubba the absence of early preclassic Mayan artifacts on Ambergris could have be as simple as the island did not exist during those times.’ The post classic period ran from 900 AD to the arrival of the Spanish in 1521. This is fairly strong evidence that the southern ¾ of Ambergris caye is less than 2000 years old and the Marco Gonzalez Maya Site located near the southern tip of Ambergris Caye was a beautiful little island. It was first recorded archaeologically in 1984 by Dr. Elizabeth Graham and Dr. David M. Pendergast. Theirs and more recent archaeological studies of the Marco Gonzalez site by Dr. S. Mazzullo support the islands age of 2000 years and the separation of Marco Gonzalez.

Re: Picture of the Day - 11/03/07 04:40 AM

I have Windows XP and after much struggling I did get it to work so the problem is not the computer but the computee.

First problem was that I was not in the right forum – you have to be in the photos, etc. one.

Next – I had a hard time finding the image manager. I expected it to be one of the boxes and it is not. It is at the bottom and isn’t even underscored to indicate that it is a link.

Then once I browsed and got my image I didn’t see that you have to upload it.

I am used to adding the name of my image and description AFTER I get the image up but in this case you need to type in that stuff before you upload the image.

Then you can browse for the 2nd and 3rd images following the same procedure.
I love you Marty .. . but I think this is a very difficult process. . . just my opinion.

Re: Picture of the Day - 11/04/07 04:42 PM

do it literally exactly as the directions describe. and it should work. i have been unable to get it to fail myself.

the problem is the image manager link is too small i think. folks don't see it. but its there. at least the option is available. didn't used to be til very recently, i'm sure the way it is used will change slightly as folks comment to the developers about it.

The house in the photo is the Domingo Cruz Sr. family home on West Street in San Ignacio. Domingo Sr. was very active in the NIP and then the UDP. His son Domingo Jr (my husband) was mayor of the twin towns in the early 80's. Domingo Sr. was elected mayor several years after his son. The home is currently owned by the two youngest Cruz children. Kirt Cruz, San Pedro resident and artist is one of the Cruz's grandchildren.

This picture entitled 'Out on the town, young people dance away a Saturday night in Placencia, a fishing village. Their dance hall--the post office--also does duty as grocery store and community center'was taken in Placencia'. See p128 of the 1969 National Geographic edition of Belize entitled "Belize, the Awakening Land" by Louis De La Haba and photographed by Michael E. Long both National Geographic staff. The featured article on Belize is from pp124-146. I know because the female dancer is myself, Mrs. Jennifer Alexis Hyde nee Gentle, living in Belize City.

Hey Marty, What exactly is artisticizing? Some of them are delightful, just wondered about the process?
Posted By: Marty

Re: Picture of the Day, Photographic Forum - 03/07/10 03:41 PM

I mess with them in photoshop... remove detail, or add detail, remove contrast, add contrast. basically i play with them for awhile. tweak them with filters and exposure manipulations...

Re: Picture of the Day, Photographic Forum - 04/05/10 06:46 PM

Although the original photograph is good and the colorized photo is artistic, the scene is one of environmental destruciton that should make Belizians angry. Dredging a straight channel through a caye, destroying mangroves, filling in shallow island habitat, ruining the homes of native fish and wildlife...all for short-term profit. Ugh!
Posted By: Phil

Re: Picture of the Day, Photographic Forum - 04/05/10 07:45 PM

I think it's the barge entrance to the Marina at the back of the Caye, that was natural cut but deepened and widened for barge access to get the barges off the front of the Island. Sometimes this sort of thing is necessary and the damage worthwhile as it saves continual damage on the front side of the Caye that will affect the Reef itself.

Re: Picture of the Day, Photographic Forum - 02/04/11 05:13 AM

from one who knows....

Mako shark is very good to eat - kind of like seafood smile - the stuff you eat at Long John Silver's

The alcohol kills the shark instanty so he doesn't thrash around in the boat.
Posted By: collyk

Re: Picture of the Day, Photographic Forum - 02/04/11 05:39 AM

"The global threat status was heightened for shortfin mako, a favorite shark among commercial and recreational fishermen, from Near Threatened in 2000 to Vulnerable today."
Sharks added to the IUCN Redlist

The Tulum ruins are among my favorites...Great photo... However one thing I really liked about this settlement is many of the common dwellings were designed on mason foundations. Then other more perishable materials (bamboo, banana leaves, palms) could be used to re-model their homes each year if needed......

Smaller croud this year 7K (only 45 tribute artists & 20 street displays) as we can thank the media "hype" for a lot of the cancellations due to the "flood" in May. Next year is 35 years of being buried in the backyard like a hampster so I am sure it will be bigger.

About the Chinese junk (19 October) - I believe it was brought here by Captain Roberto Smith (Winnie Estelle).
He lived on it way back when, way up in San Rafael California - then he sailed it down the West coast of Mexico and further had it trucked East across to the Gulf of Mexico - from whence he sailed to Belize.
What an adventure!!

Do you know when he was in San Rafael Dianne, there used to be a junk in Richardson Bay in many many years ago.

Re: Picture of the Day - 10/22/11 07:16 PM

Hey Bear - Roberto was there (I think) in the early 70's.

Until Roberto told me about his stint in San Rafael I hadn't realized that there were folks living in San Rafael on boats - somehow I thought that world revolved around Gate 5 in Sausalito. Remember those days - wow, that was something.

Re: Picture of the Day - 10/22/11 07:38 PM

That timing would be about right, I had a buddy who lived in Kentfield and we'd sail around Point Reyes to Tomales. Not that there weren't other junks on SF Bay but wow...tiny tiny world.

Red-Rump, Ambergris Caye has them as well as the mainland Belize. Very interesting spiders they live a very long time, about 20 years I'm told.
I don't like spiders but I like these guys. They have intelligence, move fast and see well, probably how they manage to live long! Racoons and Coatimundi eat them so they have to see well and move fast to survive. They live in a hole in the ground , sort of a burrow and if its a good location they will keep it for generations.

if you don't get today's photo, try purging the cache in your browser. You are reading from computer memory and not from the server. I changed the way the page loads to make the "Facebook like" thing work.

If it keeps giving folks problems i'll go back, but i'd like not to have to. Kay had problems and we got it to work by purging her history in her browser.

it has nothing to do with the message board. it is how one's browser is loading the page //AmbergrisCaye.com/photogallery. it is reading from browser memory and not getting a fresh one off the web server.

Fascinating info about the cow/trunk fish. A dead one washed up on the beach here not long ago that Paisley, our Boston Terrier, was absolutely obsessed with. Well caught shot! These yellowhead jawfish are some of my favorite things to see. And was blessed enough to see a patch of them just off San Pedro, not too long ago. It was the first time I'd ever seen them there though I've seen them in Roatan many times.

Thanks so much Barbara. It's so tough with our boudoir shots. They are some of my absolute favourites, but unfortunately, our ladies get so relaxed that even though the photos are tasteful, they are also only for the eyes of their partner. Wish I could share more of them. This particular bride was absolutely beautiful.

I too loved the Hammock House. Too bad that Libby was so restless and had to just keep moving on.
One of the best parts was the betting on what day a golf cart would go off the pull ferry into the water. I came very close one day; two front wheels over the water. With a big strong man on each side they caught me and rolled me back. Those were the days!
It is now a bit of an eyesore.

Re: Picture of the Day - 01/15/14 09:18 AM

I was wondering if you would label it a Jewfish. At the time the photo was taken it was called a Jew-fish but the fish is now called 'Goliath Grouper'.
The Oxford English Dictionary, which quotes from a book published in 1697, entitled 'A New Voyage Round the World,' by the famed explorer, William Dampier. In the book, Dampier logs his expedition to Jamaica, where he encounters Jews, who favor a certain type of fish - the jewfish - which they consider to be the grandest kosher fish. Kosher, because it has both fins and scales, and the grandest, because it is by far the largest kosher fish around, as it is in Florida's Keys. The quote from the OED is: "The Jew-fish is a very good Fish, and I judge so called by the English, because it hath Scales and Fins, therefore a clean Fish, according to the Levitical Law."
The name change has been totally baseless… just meant to appease a small group of insecure people with way too much time on their hands!but what makes me smile the most is it being changed to Goliath, a Philistine, I think we should call it the Elvis fish and give all the ethnic groups a break.

Re: Picture of the Day - 01/26/14 03:11 PM

The guides here say it's a Wowla, probably a kriol name for big constrictor. They eat monkeys, coatimunda and wild pigs. ..and get to be 15 to 20 feet long.
I have not seen one but the Guides are saying 'Yes', the photo is probably real.

That is Dion (sp?) and she was from Oklahoma. Back in the early 1990s, she had the Lagoon Restaurant on Middle St, where Social Security is now located. Really good food when Marilyn (Rasta Pasta) was cooking there. A bunch of odd stories could be told...

Today's pic of the day The Jewfish ( Goliath Grouper) The name was changed officially a few years back with the help of The Organization of Christians and Jews.
The story is in the 1800s, jewfish were considered trash fish, and some people declared it was only fit for Jews.
San Pedro had a Jewfish Street name until Mayor Elsa Paz changed it to Goliath Street.
The poetry here is the biblical Philistine Goliath was slain by the Israeli Army mail boy.

Re: Picture of the Day - 12/01/20 04:49 PM

J.D. was my old man. My name is Kristian Dunlop, his eldest boy.

In case you were wondering about his past, which I've no doubt knowing him he would've kept hidden.
His actual name was Ernest John Dunlop, and he was actually Scottish. He was put into an orphanage and moved down to London, so you'd never know he wasn't from Hastings, where my brother and I, sons from his second marriage grew up with mum, Janice Dunlop. Padge was our family nickname for him but everyone else called him J.D. and he was quite well known in our town being that he was a taxi driver. It's sheer coincidence I came across this pic today googling pop's name for no reason, but I'm glad I did. I won't lie the image of him took me aback quite a bit. He looks so...withered and ghostly. I did heard that he liked the booze over there in San Pedro but that picture is as far from the Dad I remember as could be. If there was one thing he wasn't it was a wino, I want you folks to know that. In the 20 years I was with him before he left I never once saw any alcohol cross Dad's lips- always had a cig in them but never the drink. Not only was completely teetotal but he was strong as an ox and nothing like the person in the image presented here. Dad was very respectable family man. He was always a little skint but boy did he do right by us kids and was the best pop you could ever imagine. Never let us down, not even once. And as you know him as a good laugh so was he the same back in England, friendly to everyone and absolutely beloved by many. He was extremely kind, almost to a fault at times which would irritate mum at times but I always cherished his kind soul and hopefully the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree in that sense.
My best memories of him were us all sitting around the telly and him making my brother and I cry with laughter at his comments during the duller movies we all watched together, and him taking me out to the local cafe for a cup of tea and an egg sarnie when he was running the taxi rank. What I'd give to have inherited his social skills, but despite us not sharing a love of football and my being a shy boy he always accepted me for who I was. I at least got the singing voice passed down, and it doesn't surprise me to hear he liked the karaoke box as he certainly loved his Elvis and the guitar. Had no idea he was into Billy Idol though, lol! He was also an incredibly street cookie in his way with a love of history and nature and a great tradesman; he converted the entire top of our house into a flat all by his onesies, the plumbing, painting, furnishings, electrics, the lot- all by manuals long before the days of YouTube tutorials.

Mum and him would often lock horns unfortunately and though he was a great bloke that could always make you chuckle I think she resented the fact that she had to become something of the breadwinner to get the mortgage paid (and the other women in his life didn't help) and so they parted ways when I was twenty. Dad used to say things like he'd move abroad one day, and he was sort of fascinated with pirates and the yo ho ho lifestyle and I think he had fantasies of being a buccaneer- and so it came as little surprise he upped and left to Belize when he did. I really respected that attitude, just do it and to hell with the consequences and all that. We never had much chance to communicate once he left and the next thing I know I'm 30 and getting a message from my sister that he'd passed away. Of course we had no idea he was in such dire straights otherwise we would've all chipped in and gotten him home at least for a while. If he did have any faults it was his stubbornness. I do strongly believe it was probably losing my mum and as a consequence us boys that might've driven him to drink as much as he did. If only he'd known how much we loved him. Sadly he was such a tough old bird that we always thought he was doing alright over there. Had absolutely no clue he was homeless and drinking himself to death.

Well I'm 43 now and hopefully carrying his torch. People tell me I'm the spitting image of him-- and I can only hope I also inherited his other traits, his honesty, his chivalry, his way with people, and his independence.

Finally- I'm hesitant to ask as I've heard all sorts of rumours- the daftest of which being some sort of complication from the necrosis he got from a spider bite- but do you have any idea how he died? If it was a gammy leg he left to rot then I hope he didn't go too painfully, poor old sod. There's a part of me that wishes he'd headed back to England and gone on the dole instead of the way he chose to lead his life at the end, but ..ah not a snowball's chance in hell of that. Stubborn as a muel, was old Padge. I am very glad that he had this Richie fella with him at least, he sounds like a gem himself.

Thanks for listening to my ramble everybody, have a good one.

It's depressing to see how the rum clearly sapped all of that away and the fact that he was some sort of beggar and a bit of a nuisance to some is even more incredulous. I guess he was a bit of a dark horse in that sense because to me Dad was a great man and honorable man, a respectable man in his time. He was always a little skint but boy did he do right by his kids and was the best pop you could ever imagine. Never let us down, not even once and he never cheated anybody. And he was always a good laugh too, friendly to everyone and absolutely beloved by all the family. He was extremely kind, almost to a fault and mum used to hate the lengths he'd go to help out total strangers. She almost throttled him once in Florida when he picked up a crazed, drugged-out hitchhiker with us kids in the back. My best memories of him were us all sitting around the telly and him making my brother and I cry with laughter at his comments during the duller movies we all watched together, and him taking me out to the local cafe for a cup of tea and an egg sarnie when he was running the taxi rank. He was also an incredibly street smart fellow and a great tradesman; he converted the entire top of our house into a flat all by himself, the plumbing, electrics, the lot- all by going through manuals. He was bloody good with his hands and a bit wasted as a taxi driver in my opinion. Still can't believe he had to resort to begging...

Sadly mum and him were like chalk and cheese in terms of personality and though he was a great bloke I think she resented the fact that she had to become something of the breadwinner and they parted ways when I was around twenty. Well, and there were the other birds of course (could've been more discreet, dad lol!) Dad used to say things like he'd move abroad one day, and he was sort of fascinated with pirates and the yo ho ho lifestyle and I think he had fantasies of being a buccaneer- and so it came as little surprise he upped and left to Belize when he did. We never had much chance to communicate after that and the next thing I know I'm 30 and getting a message from my sister that he'd passed away. I'm 43 now and ruminate quite a bit over how he spent his final later years, which leads me to my question; does anyone know how he actually passed? We were never really told.

I'm hesitant to ask as I've heard all sorts of rumours- the daftest of which being some sort of complication from the necrosis he got from a spider bite? If it was a gammy leg he left to rot then I hope he didn't go too painfully, poor old sod. There's a part of me that wishes he'd headed back to England and gone on the dole instead of the way he chose to lead his life at the end, but knowing him and his resolve he would've translated that as a failure of sorts.

Oh pop, fate sure shafted you at the end didn't it...hope you're up there with your smokes and a fine lady or two.

Thanks for listening to my ramble everybody, have a good one.

Love the photograph Marty... as GB Soldiers we’d use this ferry in Civilian clothing but with weapons in order to climb Xunantunich to use as an observation post (O.P.) to monitor the Guatemalan border / Traffic.

Some overseas tourists would be quite surprised coming across us in the prone position with weapons and long range Observation equipment.. just now and again (usually an American) would insist on what today (2021) would be called a Selfie- the year was 1977.
