Have they been set? Thanks!
Ask BCB, he has a magic 8 ball
Oh yay!! I am so excited! We already booked our trip for that particular weekend so I'm happy we won't be missing it.
This will be my 3rd trip to Caye Caulker and my husband's 2nd - he loved it so much we are returning this summer for his 40th and bringing some friends.
Thanks! Even better it is over the weekend of the 4th, I can stay an extra day!
No dates have been set for the Lobster Fest in Caye Caulker.
Village Council office gave me the dates for the first weekend in July.
At the last Village Council meeting, our Chairman response regarding Lobster Fest 2011 is that at this point there will be NO Lobster Fest. The decision has to be made by the Lobster Fest committee. The Village Council has NOTHING to do with it!!
Well that sucks...how can they just let Lobster Fest go...! Come on...!
Agree, that sucks. I'm sad there will be no Lobster Fest when I visit in July.
maybe, just hopefully because Belize has realized that there won't be any lobster to "fest" about given the current state of the "industry". Thanks Marty for this:

So, is there some kind of 'official' decision? Lobsterfest or NO Lobsterfest? Would it be announced in the local newspaper or something?
***Just finished reading some of the issues surrounding lobster fishing/trapping. Pretty controversial, so I don't know for sure what's happening, but it looks like taking undersized lobsters creates a serious shortage? Hope it can be balanced out in the future.
In San Pedro, and i'm sure it's the same for Caye Caulker, we have been offered lobster at Mathieu's Delicatessen a couple of times in closed season. When I remarked "isn't it still closed season?", and told the seller I wasn't interested, he backed out the door pretty damn quick. When we were living on Caye Caulker I took a fishing trip with friends of friends (just accompanying on a working fishing boat), and they pulled up a sackful of lobster, there must have been at least 80 or 90. That was 3 weeks before open.
Trying to have a tactful conversation about this with the fishermen, they said simply "if we wait til open, there'll be no lobster left, everyone's doing it so we can have a stockpile to sell on day one"... that was 3 weeks before open, go figure how long they'd been doing it and how may others had. Makes mockery of "closed" season.
