Irish aid worker killed in Central America
By Clodagh Mulvey

A 35 year-old Irish aid worker was killed last Tuesday in Central America, following an accident when he was delivering emergency aid to survivors of recent Hurricane. Mr Maurice Walsh, a computer software designer originally from Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, died immediately when he fell from a moving truck last Tuesday, from which he was unloading mattresses in the Cayo district of western Belize. Mr Walsh, who had traveled to many developing countries, was working as a computer administrator and teacher in Blize with aid agency APSO since April this year. APSO has expressed shock and sadness at the tragic loss of one of their aid workers. The organisation's Chief Executive, Mr Paul Beggan, praised Mr Walsh's dedication to working with poor communities in Central America and said he was a popular and well respected member of their team. "His loss, in such tragic circumstances, is a great blow to us all. He will be greatly missed", he said. Mr Walsh is survived by parents John and Pat Walsh and his three brothers and sisters.
