Coming to visit, want to help, what can I bring/do? - 10/19/01 02:24 PM
I am travelling to Belize, from Canada, in about 2 weeks, and I would like to help with Hurricane relief. Are you only looking for donations, or can you us some "people power". I may be able to bring a small amount of supplies. Please let me know soon, as I am leaving on Oct. 21.

Since Nemo isn't monitoring this board, I guess it's hard for anyone to say. Best thing is to present yourself when you get there. My sister from FLorida will be in Placencia on Nov. 11. She is a nurse, but also hopes to be able to offer her assistance for whatever else might be needed.
What area are you planning to visit? Maybe if someone knew that, it would be helpful.

Our friends at Maruba have indicated a particularly desperate need for children's clothes in the Indian villages - if you wish to drop your donations of such items with Maruba (or call them and arrage for a pick-up) they will make certain they get to some deserving kids asap. They are sending a truckload of things to a village where family of some of their staff live, and where they know the need to be great.
Other helpful things that are easy to pack are plastic ponchos and plastic thong shoes (small-ish sizes).

What is Maruba? I am also coming to Belize in December and was hoping to be able to bring some supplies with me to donate.
