Count NBC's Tom Brokaw Among Fans of Kitty's Place

Belize is an attraction for some celebrities for many of the same reasons that you and I visit; for R & R, to get away from the crowds, and to enjoy the reef and rainforest.

Longtime NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw and his wife Meredith have escaped to Belize on several occasions, staying at Kitty's Place, a secluded beach resort located 1 miles north of the Creole village of Placencia, on the peninsula by the same name.

Obviously, Brokaw has traveled the world extensively; what attracts him and his family to Belize? "We love the 'untouched' quality of the cayes, jungle and ruins," he replies, by e-mail. "So much of Belize remains in a natural state, and that is harder and harder to find these days."

As well, there are many resorts to stay in Belize; what attracted the Brokaws to Kitty's Place? "Kitty's Place is special to us because of its low-key, 'homey' qualities. The bungalows, bar and beach are ideally suited to a beach-comber's kind of holiday," he says. The Brokaws have been to Kitty's three times. "I recommend it to lots of friends looking for a no-hassle get-away in a beautiful place," he says

Kitty Fox describes the resort with her namesake as "nothing fancy, but just about perfect." There are thoughtful amenities such as an in-room coffee maker, a small refrigerator and a hammock or two on the veranda, amidst beautifully landscaped grounds - with a natural, not manicured style.

"This is a Belizean-owned resort with a local flavor and traditional Belizean architecture, which aims to provide five-star service at a three-star price," she continues. Kitty's Place sports a beautiful new swimming pool, and accommodations splashed with Caribbean color.

Kitty's Sea Breeze Restaurant offers consistently good food, with interesting menus and a new dinner menu every night. There are unique Belizean and Caribbean dishes, and every Sunday there is Mayan Pibil: chicken and pork seasoned with traditional Mayan spices, wrapped in banana leaves and baked underground, in a pit on the beach. Served by candlelight, it makes for an unforgettable evening.

At Kitty's Place, you can even rent your own private island; French Louie Caye is a small 1 acre private island about eight miles east of the resort in the Caribbean Sea. It's a perfect place for excellent snorkeling, as a mangrove forest along the island side of the coral reef provides a refuge for a multitude of marine life. Visitors to Belize can rent French Louie Caye for their own exclusive use, and stay in a newly furnished guest house with all basic amenities. The resort provides food, transport, snorkel gear and a sea kayak at French Louie Caye.

Kitty's Place offers wedding and honeymoon packages, and a variety of "surf and turf" tours and activities.

who will manage the rentals of those other properties when Kitty's is sold?

I agree, NYP, folks should take time to visit there, especially if they are in search of beaches.
