CHICAGO BASED GROUP MAKE SEVERAL DONATIONS - 08/18/11 02:01 PM
The Garifuna Lun Awanseruni of Chicago group made donations to various organizations in Dangriga.

"At an official handing over ceremony that was held at the Dangriga Gulisi Museum Garifuna Lun Awanseruni which is a Garifuna organization based in Chicago donated various medical supplies to the Southern Regional Hospital and the Belize Red Cross Dangriga Branch. Gulisi Primary School is also the recipient of bicycle stands. Julie Smith is the treasurer of the Association.

"Garifuna Group for Chicago works to assist deserving individuals and groups here in Belize. We also preserve and share our culture in the Chicago area. We are constantly requesting donations from people and organizations. We also do regular fundraising by cooking our favorite hudut, darasa and pigtail among others. We are happy to assist the Red Cross, Gulisi School with the racks, the Hospital with medical and surgical supplies, Red Cross with crutches, walkers, adult disposable pants, Accu Check for diabetic individuals to get assistance in that area. Also we are happy to award seven deserving students with scholarships for high school. The Cancer Center also received a donation today, Hopkins Village School received some office supplies as well. We are also open to work with any other individual here in the Belize area. We want to thank the group in Chicago that has worked endlessly and tirelessly to be able to present this award."
A number of Dangrigans were a part of the ceremony. Mayor Aaron Gongora was also in attendance along with area representative for Dangriga and Deputy Minister of Health Arthur Roches."
