Tonight, the Joint Unions negotiating team and senior government ministers are at the House of Culture in Belize City entering the last leg of negotiations.

On Friday's news, the 1st Vice-President of the Public Service Union said that Government wanted to explain its response to the union's counterproposal - which the union viewed as a rejections of their cost saving proposals.

Government still believes that the only efficient way to realise the 80 million in savings it needs it to cut salaries and freeze increments for teachers and public officers. The unions have indicated thet they will resist and reject that proposed salary cut.

So, the opposing positions are clearly staked out.

We are reliably informed that today's meeting started at around 1 p.m., and up until the start of our newscast this evening, it appeared the talks were ongoing.
