Transportation/lodging - 03/27/04 08:08 PM

I am trying to put together a trip for 8 to 12 people so I've got to get it right. I am hoping to do 3 nights on the mainland and 7 nights on Ambergris Caye. What companies do you reccomend for getting out to Ambergris Caye? Is there any one location for lodging on Ambergris Caye that is better or is the Island small enough that it doesn't matter. Thanks soo much for any help you can give me.

I had a great time at Caribe Island. It was a little pricey we found out later, but sometimes that's worth the extra expense. It's also a couple miles from town, but they offer complimentary bicycles for your transportation if you don't rent a golf cart. If you choose to stay at Caribe Island, be forewarded that all rooms are not stocked the same. We stayed in two different rooms for our stay and the second room had 1/4 of the amenities (bowls, plates, silverware, can openers, etc.) Might want to ask whomever you choose to stay with ahead of time regarding this. Hope this helps at all.

Depends on what you are looking for. I just spent 2 nights in a 2 bedroom fully equipped oceanfront condo at The Palms which was great. They have 1 or 2 bedroom units and 2 bedroom with lofts that may accommodate your whole group. Also spent 2 nights right in the middle of town at the Holiday Hotel. Also oceanfront and as convenient as you can get. They have a few little sections of rooms which would be great for a small group- rooms 9, 10, 11, 12 or 5, 6 ,7. Would kind of give your group some privacy and a place to congregate outside of the main hotel lobby or porch. Not full kitchens but most have a fridge and the location can't be beat. They do have 1 suite with full kitchen, etc.

Email me for more info or details. There are also 3 or 4 bedroom units or houses on the island - depends on your price range and needs.

Where are you thinking about for the mainland?

I think you might really enjoy the Blue Tang for your group. They have some very nice king rooms in the front (2nd and 3rd floor) plus some other rooms that have two queens. The two queen rooms are VERY large and have large kitchen/lounging areas. Since this is a smaller hotel, you guys would be close to each other and may even almost feel like you had the place to yourselves. It does have a very small pool though.

chgnlat,
Check out Victoria House, they have a large house for rent as well as one or two smaller ones. Not sure how many each will accomadate, and the larger one has its own pool. VH is a bit south of town, a little secluded, but close enough to town to get back and forth without much hassle. Restaurant, bar, nice pool, and water sports rentals on site. They also have casitas and regular hotel rooms for rent. Great friendly staff as well.

For a great mainland experience, I'd suggest the "Lodge at Big Falls"

For hotel in San Pedro I'd suggest Aqua Marina Suites.

Thanks!! All the info is great.
On the mainland I was hoping to stay at one of the jungle lodges I have heard about. I plan on checking out the "Lodge at Big Falls" now.
Regarding Air transportation on the puddle jumpers do you reccommend anyone?

I've gotten so much great info I think I need to have a Rum punch laugh

Re: Transportation/lodging - 03/30/04 01:52 AM

there are only two - Maya Air & Tropic Air. Rates are same and it really does not matter which you choose......though I generally use Tropic. Their websites can be found above, under the "Goods & Services" link.

Lodge at Big Falls appears awesome, but PG is a longggggg way down there, so you will most likely be flying to PG, as you only have 3 days on mainland.

We stayed at Aqua Marina last month,it would be a good choice, right on the beach in town,as are Hoilday House and Blue Tang. With so many people I would for sure stay downtown. It would give everyone more options close by to do different things & not always look for transportaion downtown, not that that is a big hassle, but it would be easier. Being downtown is my favorite area to stay. Many different bars & restaurants close by.

Any of the 3 places are good. The Aqua Marina Suites is between the other two. The Blue Tang looks like are real nice place to stay.

I also would not get a whole house for everyone to stay in!!! Some may want a little breather from each other. Multiple rooms is the way to go.

Have fun

Going to the Lodge at Big Falls, I'd suggest flying down to PG as you want to get there as quick as possible.

Leaving the Lodge to go to San Pedro, I'd suggest a road transfer up to Belize Municipal as the road is paved all the way and the scenic view is beautiful.

To break the journey, you can have a stop at the inland Blue Hole, Belmopan.

Again I want to thank all for the great info.
Please keep it coming. I need all the insight I can get. Do you reccomend I book thru a tour opperator or piece it together myself. I put together an 11 day trip to Key West for the same group last fall but I have never done anything out of the U.S.
Thanks,
Donna
