Preparing for Growth in the Hotel Industry - 12/08/18 12:17 PM
Becoming a Belizean specialist is now part of the requirement for tourism stakeholders as they prepare for the expansion of the industry in the years ahead. That includes hoteliers and others in the service sector. Today, the Belize Hotels Association held the second of its biannual meetings led by President Ted Tejada. He says that the industry will realize a twenty-one percent upsurge by 2021.
Ted Tejada, President, Belize Hotels Association
“Our main topic for this year is how do we prepare for massive growth? We’re going to be looking in the next three years at twenty-one percent growth in inventory for the country of Belize. Over the last seven years we’ve have an approximation of about three percent growth every year, but in the next, 2019, 2020 and 2021, we are going to be seeing around twenty-one percent growth. How do we prepare for that and when we mean preparation we mean employees, airlines, food, the resorts, the destinations that are actually visited. How do we prepare for that? That’s the main topic for this biannual meeting.”
“Now when you look at the idea of growth and expansion, you’re also looking at the ability to provide services and efficiency in doing so. What are the preparations since this discussion is ongoing?”
“One of the other speakers that we actually invited actually has a platform at a university to be a specialist in Belize. Actually that platform has over a hundred thousand travel agents that have registered on the platform and actually fifteen hundred registered to be a Belizean specialist.”
