Leo moving ahead with plan for Belize eco-resort

Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly moving forward with plans to build an eco-resort on an island he owns off the coast of Belize.
Construction is scheduled to start on Blackadore Caye sometime in the next year, reports Cheyenne Morrison in his Private Islands Blog. Las Vegas-based The Light Group will handle master-planning for the development, which will be operated by Four Seasons, Morrison says. (In February Dubai-based Zabeel Investments took a 50 percent stake in the Light Group, which is best known for its Las Vegas projects.) Morrison also supplies a link to a 3D animation marketing the project.

The star of "Titanic" and "The Beach" reportedly paid $1.75 million in 2005 for the narrow two-mile long, 104-acre island. Plans call for the Four Seasons Blackadore Caye to include an 80-room hotel and an array of condominiums and luxury villas, as well as serve as "a test bed for innovative green technologies such as hybrid power systems," Morrison reports.

End of Kevin Bass' write-up

Blackadore Caye is a little less than half-way due East between Ambergris Caye and the mainland, on a horizontal line that would divide Ambergris a little more than a third of the way South of its Northern tip.
