Try Merida, Mexico if you have some extra time. It is so beautiful and inexpensive.

No, Panama hats (particularly good ones) are only available in Panama. And Jersey, I hear. Belikin Beanies, on the other hand, are of the highest quality on AC and are readily available almost everywhere. Pedro Pork Pie hats are nearly as popular but are a bit more elusive to all but the savviest shoppers. San Pedro Skimmers are available only during election years but are highly sought-after by collectors. The venerable Turneffe Toque experienced a short-lived but colorful burst of popularity at Crazy Canuck's but, after a full year of no temperatures under 60 degrees, fell from popularity and has not reappeared.

found awesome quality Panama's in a little Indian village off the beaten track in Northern Ecuador, priced around $175 and up if memory serves correct. The entire village was a "hat making" village selling their wares all around the world, which is probably where those "Jersey" hats came from.
