Ramon's Village ??? - 09/12/05 01:21 PM

I am new to this board. Looking for anyone that can tell me about Ramon's Village. We have been going to Negril, Jamaica for past 4 years. My husband has never been anywhere else. I have always wanted to visit Ambergris Caye. This might be the year. Any info appreciated.
Thanks,
Kimmy

Went to Belize with my husband and dive group last Nov. Stayed at Ramon's. We are going back this November with his 3 children and their husbands and wives...we liked it that much. Have been to 26 different Carribean islands and never before has he liked a destination so much that he planned a return trip with his kids. Ramon's was nice...had a beach front room with a little deck. we are staying right next door this time at the Palms because with 7 people we needed more space and kitchens. The Palms is a condo offering 1 and 2 bedroom condos. I'm not saying anything bad about Ramon's but I think there are better value places to stay. Look through this forum...it is very helpful and the people are very informative. You will love Belize. Ambergris Caye has something intangible that seems to make it more magical than some other islands we've been to (Tortola comes close). Have a great trip whatever you decide

laugh Stayed at Ramon's last spring. Thatched huts, comfortable rooms, very helpful staff, breakfasts good dinners ok, not great. Lots of dive and snorkel trips from their pier, very good overall experience. Staying at Banana Beach and Belize Palms this fall just as a checkout for future trips. Also great central location next to airstrip and easy walk into town.(Caution: if you have to call home for pleasure or business pray that your cell phone works we ran up over $500. in regular phone bills - business related)
Rykat (you will like Ramons)

Check out the Sunbreeze or Aqua Marina Suites. Exotic Caye also.

ramon's is OK; but the Palms next door is better and quieter!! You can have theym stockt he refrig with bevereages and, if you need a bar, just go to the Purple Parrot at Ramon's next door. Ramon's rooms are cute, but overpriced for what you get.

I like the bar, pool and dock at Ramon's and they're pretty good bout letting you use their facilities if you're drinking smile

The Palms is next door and you can always walk a few yards down to Ramon's, crash in a beach chair and start ordering drinks from the very nice waiters.

We stayed at Ramon's on our first trip and loved AC so much we have been back 3 times and going again in March. Ramon's is a agreat place to stay on your 1st trip. Once you get a chance to look around and get a feel forr what is available you, like us, might make other living arrangements when you go back. Remember that even in AC you will get what you pay for. Their dive operation is great, especially if you get to know a couple of the Dive Masters.

Several businesses now have internet phones that they will let you use to call N. America very cheaply.

I won't stay at Ramons again. Look at what the other posts are saying, there is much better value for what you get staying elsewhere. The Palms is great, and right next door, but you get a much better room for the same price. Look at the other suggestions. I loved A/C, and will go back, but not to Ramons. I read comments like this before I went, and ignored them, and when I got home I flat out regretted staying at Ramons, but loved going to A/C!

We were in Belize in May. We visited Ramons a few times. The food there was good and you can snorkel off the end of the pier. You will really like Ambergris Caye because you can walk anywhere and feel safe. Lots of places to eat and drink. A lot like a small town. you can check out our trip report at http://www.dave-lori-home.com/belize%20travel.htm

Re: Ramon's Village ??? - 09/21/05 04:58 PM

Rykat- you stayed there and now are going to stay somewhere else, Uh... how about ....WHY? is it because you found out you could stay right next door (the Palms) for the same price, but have a condo, or you could stay elsewhere and have a room (and that's all you get at Ramons) and save 30-50%! My displeasure with Ramons is well noted in other post, but to sum, it is a value received vs dollar paid I did not like. & I did raise the questions to them about this and filled out their form, but they never responded.

We met people who were staying at Ramon's and their biggest beef was the number of non-guests using the pool, beach area and pier...sometimes to the point that they couldn't get a lounge or go for a swim there.
