Can we fill the cooler?

Can we fill the cooler? - 12/12/05 03:02 PM

We're thinking about bringing a cooler (a gift for a friend and so we can use it during our stay). Any restrictions on what food we can bring with from the states? Thanks.

I would only bring in processed foods to avoid any hassles. You never know what is being restricted and it seems to change from day to day. Don't bother bringing in beer, soda, fruit juice or rice.

just go to the local grocery stores once you get there & fill up on whatever you need.

kristy / are you back home? How many groceries did you buy? We found that groceries are REALLY expensive. diane&greg / If there are items that you know you are going to crave or want while you're vacationing and you are bringing the cooler anyway - fill it up! We spent over $100.00 for breakfast things the first day we were there. (Coffee, bread, milk, eggs) It really took me awhile to get used to the prices at the supermarkets. I don't know how the locals can do it! I wonder if there might be a different price arrangement for people that live on the island - for their sake I hope so.

Same price for locals as tourists unless, like me, you are buying large volumes.

You also have to know which shops to shop at and which to avoid.

klcman / And what is that supposed to mean? The locals know how to "put it away". Thank goodness we don't drink booze anymore. That would really put a huge dent in the pocket! Hey, everybody out there!!!! What is the most you have spent on a night out drinking on AC. (Tell at least the part that you remember). Really, I bet we could get some fantastic stories.
Simon / PM me if you would. I want to find out if I'm going to the right stores. I know you don't like to advertise one business over another, but this is IMPORTANT! Thanks, Pam

It means they don't, for the most part, eat the kinds of foods you & I do - most of the time - nothing more, nothing less. Compare your(my) normal brekkie with one of a San Pedrano. has nada to do with quantity.

Spent on a night out - per person or as a group for which you picked up the tab? Hmmm have tot think about that one (nodamnediceorowater, tyvm)

Biggest tab for a night/day (24 hours) out on the town. The most spent in a day for a killer hangover. I know there must be some outrageous tales you can share. I saw some serious money being spent at a few famous AC watering holes. How much have you spent? Come on admit it!

Come on - don't be shy. You have helped the economy of San Pedro. Be proud of those hard earned US dollars! You earned it - you can spend it the way you want. I know, you have to shake your head and laugh when you think about it...
