Fourth Of July 2006 - 02/19/06 11:25 AM

Even though its not a Belizean holiday, do the Americans have a celebration of fireworks for the 4th of July? Just want to make sure what to expect and what is ok ..

Fireworks are technically illegal in Belize.

i have been there a few times on the 4 july and its really not a big deal from what i have seen, only really the gringos celebrate it, and there really wasn't much of that going on, i'm sure the bars will have something going on.

lol. fourth of july is nothing from when I have been here. No fireworks for americans on 4th of July, lol, it is not an american country. I would expect nothing.

We celebrate independence day Sept 21 and have a large fireworks show and much longer celebration than in the US. It is all day/afternoon long and night, parades, parties, etc.

Don't know if it is specific to the 4th (I spend every summer between June and July in Belize) but last year I remember fireworks several times in San Pedro, and it seems like it was not just one weekend.

4th of July is celebrated all over the world as a day of the week of the month of the year.

I believe that some time during that time may be the Lobsterfest on Caye Caulker?? Please someone add to this. laugh

I have never heard it being celebrated all over the world. What country did you celebrate it in other than the USA? You are probably right that it is in some countries, though I did not run into one person who realized it was July 4 when I was in Germany.

Re: Fourth Of July 2006 - 03/02/06 06:34 AM

Re: Fourth Of July 2006 - 03/04/06 01:56 PM

There are always get-together celebrations in Belize City for the 4th of July. They have hot dogs, beer, lots of fun and yes, they have fireworks. Fireworks are not illegal in Belize, you simply need to get a permit so that civil aviation, the fire department etc. is aware of the activity.

I haven't seen ads yet, but I think the 4th of July celebrations are held at Cucumber Bay just outside of Belize City.

Maybe once the US embassy moves to Belmopan, the 4th of July celebrations will move there too.

In the meantime nobody (ok, maybe a jerk or 2) will be offended if you want to wear your patriotic garb. Most locals find it amusing to see overly patriotic US citizens making sure we are aware that they love their country. laugh

Thanks Amanda! We won't be so patriotic, but to know we could be is fun.. Thanks for your post!
