We are staying at Victoria House in August for our anniversary. All my research tells me it's the most upscale hotel on the caye.

pedro & Denny,
I'm a little confused......did I mis-speak or open up a can of worms?

This is only my first trip so I hope I didn't offend anyone with my opinion. While searching for an upscale hotel on Ambergris I was hard pressed to find lodging as nice and with as good a reputation.

Don't worry about it. It's an inside joke. Vic House is just one of the upscale hotels on the island with a great reputation, you won't regret your choice.

VH really are upscale and don't claim it for themselves.

I agree with pedro... VH is upscale and I think you will like it there. eek

mobunny - VH could use those photos for postcards. Beautiful shots!
TannedBanana - The entrance and driveway into VH will take your breath away. And that's just the beginning! You will have an anniversary to remember forever. Have fun...

VH is really nice, a next nice place to check,
is Captain Morgan's Retreat if you would like to stay up north on the Island.

Capt. Morgans used to have a bad reputation for aggressive timeshare tactics...have things changed at all?

We stay at Captain Morgans every year and love it. The time share people are super there and the rest of the staff make you feel like you are at home. We are already booked for next Feb.

That's good to hear.

We stopped in a few months ago just to have drinks at the bar. It took us most of the time we were there to convince at least two different people we didn't want to hear even a little bit of the time share pitch.

We stayed at Belizean Shores in January and think it's an excellent choice for north of town. There are a number of photos of Belizean Shores, both the interior of our unit and the grounds, in my ShutterFly collection.

Go to the bottom left of the screen and click on "Belize 2006" (the featured collection is for the May trip, named "Belize May 2006").

www.tripadvisor.com

Tripadvisor rankings:
#1 Corona del Mar (woody's)
#2 Victoria House
#3 Belizean Shores

I've stayed at 1 and 3. Corona del mar is close to town, nice little beach, nice breakfasts, very personal (small). and lots of free punch; a good way to meet the other guests if you like to drink a lot and play horseshoes.
Belizean Shores is good for a 1 week stay, with your own full kitchen, best simming pool, great service and staff.
Or, read the comments from a variety of guests at tripadvisor.com

Not knocking your list but the source leaves a lot to be desired:
