Google Earth, new maps of Belize - 06/12/06 05:35 PM

Google has new maps of San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Much sharper than before. MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER

if you are not familiar with it, google earth is a download from Google. When you get to Google, click on More at the top. On the next page, on the left, click on Google Earth.

its free. and one incredible program . tour the planet. wow factor way up there.
once you get out of the town areas, its the old resolution. amazing to put it right on the resolution line and see how much better the new maps are

The shots are still a bit out dated. You can see that the Legacy dock north of hustler still isn't in the shot and neither is Chuck and Robbie's dock. The Aqua Marina dock isn't in but Belize Bank is visible as is Pedro's Inn so the shots are within the last couple of years.

I can see my golf cart parked out front!

Cool. The old pics were pretty much just clouds over a highly obscured island coast -- awesome.

Sweet images!!

I'm doing satellite imagery of the coastal ocean for my thesis. I poked around trying to get good images of AC but none were as good as these cool

Re: Google Earth, new maps of Belize - 06/13/06 12:53 AM

i notice a nice wide swath of the cayes from about laughing bird caye north to the cut on ambergris has new imagery. a little gap here and there like on ambergris the new imagery catches the southern end up to the cut then a gap then the northern end is covered. caye caulker is fully covered

also, if you get the 20 dollar version when you print them they are super high rez...

if you get the 400 dollar version the printing is unbelievably high rez. we're seeing only 72dpi onscreen. and the $400 one (the pro version) is free for two weeks.

but all the pics above are from using the free version.

the funnest part isn't even seeing the still images, but how one can sweep thru valleys, moving the mouse lets you literally fly past. i just did the entire ambergris caye shoreline. except for that small section that is still the old blurry imaging

or sweeping up the valleys around mt st helens and flying into the crater....

[Linked Image]

or walk the streets of rome..... or baghdad...

i am trying the 20$us a year version. says a few differences. faster network access and higher rez printing. google maps onscreen are 72dpi, i can't wait to print em at like 1200 dpi. i guess the $400 a year version prints to 4800 dpi or something crazy.

i watched a show last night about a huge island shaped like a palm tree off dubai, all man made. and how they built it. amazing story. i was using google earth at the same time to see what they were talking about, where they were, where the sand barges were coming and going from. crazy stuff. adds new levels to study.

can't wait to gee google earth 1245 ad and 2000 bc etc. someday when the animators take over.
