Please mind your manners

Please mind your manners - 04/20/07 05:53 PM
I am getting a number of complaints about the tone of the board. The recent Holy Cross thread and one on crocs are examples recently where people get mean and start trying to boss each other around.
PLEASE READ THIShttp://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2007/03/call_for_a_blog_1.html
and take note of it.
We are not children. we are acting like we are. grow up folks and get along
. its not all that difficult.
we have a few jerks on here. BE NICE. if thats too much for you i will begin more frequent suspensions of posting rights. i just woke up and spent my first hour on complaints about the board. fun start to the day. i feel totally like a babysitter. are we all babies?
COOL THE INSULTS. COOL THE PERSONAL attacks and quit telling everyone how to live and think. we ain't going to change each others minds. its fine to say how you feel. thats you, one person. no reason to expect the rest of the world to fall in behind you and agree with every utterance.
state your opinion and PLEASE allow room in your thoughts for other opinions.

Thanks Marty. I promise to do my best. There are places to confront each other directly when it gets personal and clearing the air doesn't have to be airing dirty laundry. Like an email or private message. This issue has tested me personally and I'll admit I may have crossed that line too. If not I'm sure I rode the edge of it. For the most part I have met many fine people through this site and I want to thank you for that too. Most of us do agree on one thing, and that is we love "Isla Bonita" and passionately care about it's future. As do you I am sure. I look forward to meeting you, perhaps again, knowing now who you are and shaking your hand.

Thank you Mary!........... That is one of the reasons I became a reader and not a writer on the board. Too many people hide behind the writing words and say the first thing that comes to their mind, things that they would never say to someone’s face.
The board is not a license for insults.
Thanks for setting the right tone.

ditto. There's a difference between debate and ridicule. Hope I've never crossed that line. Thanks for all you do Marty.

I agree we should keep the mean spirit attacks or defense against said attacks to the domain of the local papers or face to face. I will be at my office between 1100 am and 100pm for anyone wants chat. Lets keep this board free of all contoversy.
This is the "Isla Bonita" lets keep it clean. Sorry if I broke any rules.
With that "Isla Bonita" spirit in mind there will be a Holy Cross School workathon scheduled next week on Wednesday between 300pm and 600pm. All welcome. Bring garbage bags.

Controversy is one thing and mud slinging is a whole other………….
Now, if I ran into Peter around town and he said to me
“Hi Orly how about this great weather?”
I would really think he was coming down with something……. (smile)

Consider eliminating anonymous comments.
"When people are anonymous, they will often let themselves say or do things that they would never do when they are identified. There are important contexts in which anonymity is important, for example, for political speech in repressive regimes. But in most contexts, accountability via identity changes how people behave."

You are right, Marty. I got seriously carried way in some of my posts. To everyone here: I'm sorry about that. I will do my best to keep my tone much, much more civil. And I won't post to this board while I'm drunk.

Morning Capt.--check the dates, this post was from April and Simon was just reminding us to be kind and walk in love with each other,a great guideline for this board.

PLEASE allow room in your thoughts for other opinions.
Thank you Marty for this advice. I need to report to you that some of your moderators seem to be drunk with power and have removed some perfectly healthy posts that some people on this forum have taken the time to create. How is that action on the part of some of your moderators in keeping with the advice you gave in quotes above when the posts that they have made are in keeping with what you admonished us to do? I certainly agree with what you said in your first post on this thread. But please police your moderators and perhaps remind them of the true nature of their job.

Jessy once said something worth writing on the wall,"No personal Attacks".
I really like that advice
but does that include Rykat's bald head?

Re: Please mind your manners - 09/24/07 03:34 PM
I don't post much -- haven't been to AC yet (that will change in December, Yeah) but I have found it to provide great, useful information. That's especially true for new people and I know I speak for a lot of "lurkers" that enjoy this board. We really enjoy the talk back and forth -- BUT Marty is right -- keep things upright on the board and handle your disagreements / putdowns etc with private email -- no one else enjoys watching such displays.
Again, Marty -- thanks for all you do!

Re: Please mind your manners - 09/24/07 03:41 PM
The trouble with banning certain instigators on this board is that they come over to other boards and start the same nonsense ie: tag trolling with other instigators they have hooked up with. Marty already knows of whom I talk about. It gets tiresome which is why I no longer post on certain boards.
All we can do is ignore the children. Let them throw their tantrums so we can all have a good laugh.
I would bet that not one of these knobs would ever have to the guts to spew their nonsense in public. JMHO.
Does anyone sell Whoopass down here? <big grin>

Now-Now julian, a little disagreement now and then makes the world go round, sure would be a damn dull place without it!
excuse me, elbert but I may resemble that remark!
