question about the water - 01/08/08 12:36 AM
My family and I will be traveling to AC in 5 1/2 weeks. My sister-in-law will be 5 months pregnant. She is worried about drinking the water and getting sick. What do you think? I have not seen any reviews that have mentioned that.

Bottled water is readily available. I have used the tap water to brush my teeth, take a pill, cook with, and even used it with ice (made from the same water) to make tea. No problems, but since she's pregnant, why tempt fate? Get bottled water and enjoy..and drink a lot of it. I suggest getting a five gallon bottle and use it to fill cups/bottles, and not add to the plastic pollution if you can help it. You can get big bottles, or if need be, one gallon bottles almost everywhere. We go through a five gallon bottle every 3 days or so, using it only to drink. Need to keep hydrated, ya know.

My daughter and I traveled through Belize for several weeks when she was 4 months pregnant. We consulted her obstetrician and a travel doctor before we went. They gave us a list of meds she could take "just in case" of any illness and both agreed it was safe for her to travel. If you are staying on AC I would say no worries at all. She drank only bottled water (which we both do anyway) and had no problems.
She had a wonderful time and we hope to take her son - now five -back soon!
