Hi there - does anyone know when they plan to extend electricity/water out to Ambergris Bay?

to hear all the talk of development everywhere - it wont be that long. What property are you looking at?

Ha ha ha. Some areas within half a mile of Town don't have water or sewage.

Actually, we bought a lot on Ambergris Bay about a year and a half ago. If nothing else, it's a great excuse to keep coming back for a visit!! We're going to be in SP on Sat and we're bringing my wife's parents with us. I'm sure we'll toodle over there and take a peek.

I was wondering if any of you "insiders" had heard rumours, innuendo, or complete outright lies smile

Ambergris Bay is a really great area. I like the calm waters and the beautiful sunsets. Good move on your purchase. It's always smart to get in before the infrastructure, if you can wait a few years (old fogies need not apply).

Old fogies invest for their kids and grandkids.

I also have a lot on Ambergis bay and when we originally started looking about 5 years ago there was nothing for sale on that side then 2 years ago we bought. When I told people (on this board) every one said I was crazy because of the sand flees or leaches and that it would take 20 or more years to see any development? I am glad to hear the opinions are changing. Any one know about the real estate taxes over there? Like are they due yet? Last year I was told - not in the computer yet? Not exactly like Chicago!! (and I am glad).

Wow - good point on the land taxes. I figured we'd get a bill or something and then promptly forgot about it.

I think Ambergris Bay is a reasonable investment. While it's hard to do an "apples/apples" comparison on land, we have seen property similar to ours in size and location go up in price over the last two years.

Having said that, ideally, I'd love to build something there eventually and make it a part time home. I've got 12 yrs until a realistic retirement and my wife has twice that much. So we've got a ways to go. No way it's gonna be just for the kids and grandkids!!! smile

Hope to see some of you soon. We arrive tomorrow afternoon and should become fixtures at Crazy Canucks. NY Rangers vs Montreal Canadiens at 1pm on Sunday!!

Where is this area, we'll be down in march and wanna look at all the viable areas for sale. We too, would rather build a small retirement home, and have a place to visit in the mean time.

Ambergris bay is on the west side - not much development yet by where Leonardo's island is (that side) North of Cayo Espanto
