The Ambergris Caye Traffic Control Committee wishes to inform the public that effective December 15th, 2011, a moratorium on the importation of vehicles will be implemented and enforced until April 15th, 2012.

This is to conduct consultations with the public at large and other stakeholders regarding traffic control and vehicle importation into the island as it relates to the current vehicle regulations set out for Ambergris Caye. Amendments to the current Statutory Instrument (S.I.) will be proposed once the consultations are finalized.

This is a message from the San Pedro Town Council, The Department of Transport-Belmopan, and the Ambergris Caye Traffic Control Committee. NOTE: The committee will hold regular meetings to consider personal vehicles only such as golf carts and scooters.

Dredge to manufacture more land, build more hotels, resorts, timeshares, spend money on add campaigns to attract more tourists - then worry about there being more vehicles to support all of this.
AC needs to recognize the need to provide the infrastucture and services for the population it has and plan for future growth based on its ability to provide these.
Much more investment needs to be made to provide these as opposed to money spent on compounding the problem by attracting more people.
AC being dependant on tourism needs to put more investment and emphasis on the quality it provides as opposed to the quantity it can attract.
