Anyone heard of Seven Seas Resort?

Anyone heard of Seven Seas Resort? - 09/07/00 02:17 AM

We were thinking about staying at Paradise Villas again; but just received offer to stay at Seven Seas Resort. Supposedly about 10 min from downtown. The write-up and pictures on this web site looks pretty nice, but that is advertising (I am from MISSOURI-so you have to prove it to me!) Do any of you have any comments on this property? North or South of Town? Quality of property? Any praise or complaint?

Also, any comments on Gaz Cooper Dive operations? Good boats, helpful divemasters, etc.

Please let me know what you know!

Hey bro,
you're in good hands there. My dear French friend, Dominique,(he's a he) runs 7 seas to a tee. It's true! You are 7 to 10 mins. from town, and near good shopping, and a great pier to jump off of. Don't forget to snorkle off the pier at night. The octopus and eels are fantstic.(bring a dive light). I live right next door, and have wasabi!!

Ah yes, you are in GOOD hands at seven seas... slightly north of town, not much. still pretty much in town.

nice beach, pool, Bill and Dominique will take care of you no problemo. Lots of restaurants close, store, close to downtown and the park...

tell Bill the damn okie nerd said hi.

BFS and Marty,

Thanks for your comments. We really enjoyed our last visit to AC and are looking forward to this trip. Imagine, less than 30 days to go. JUST CAIN'T WAIT!! (But I wasn't able to color that comment in RED?? Guess I will have to re-read the instructions).

If Seven Seas is north of town, is it farther north than Paradise Villas?

It is past the high school, just before the "river".
I haven't figured out the big red letters either!

Texas Cat, That's great! But we are on CO 1233 from Houston to BZE, departs Houston at 9:16am, arrives BZE at 10:42am. We will have the whole afternoon to get ready to be lazy and chill out!

BFS: You think you are so smart, don't you.
Well, I will get red letters if it kills me!Maybe not tonight, but someday

Texax Cat, My wife, the travel agent who knows best, tells me that the flight number has probably been changed by CO from 1233 to 1231; and that we probably are on the same flight. We'll have to see.

Also, we are still trying to decide whether to stay at Paradise Villas or at Seven Seas. But either way, we'll see you in San Pedro! Less than 4 weeks to go! Can't wait to get wet; and, hopefully, few mosquitos and lots of sunshine!

Texas Cat,

We have also just celebrated our 20th aniversary in June.

And now as far as any tips are concerned...

(1) one of the "mistakes" that new divers make is to become very nervous and excited in the water; they breathe too fast and too shallow. Instead, relax when entering the water, imagine that you are in the swimming pool when taking your lessons. Concentrate on breathing in a slow, deep, and regulated manner.

Every new diver imagines that there is a

MAN-EATING SHARK!

watching them and waiting to devour them! (My thanks to Stevenalice and my 18 year old son, John, for that!)

In 5 years of diving, we have only seen a couple of nurse sharks (and nurse sharks are very docile, wouldn't hurt a sand flea!), we even swam with one nurse shark in Cancun for 15 minutes; petting it and having our picture taken with it (divemaster used one of JaneinPa's large size baggies to keep camera dry).

(2) Secondly, when you are swimming along above the reef (though not too close to damage the reef); swim very slowly, this accomplishes two things: you don't overexert yourself and cause fast, shallow breathing; and more importantly, there are so many small creatures, such as banded shrimp, toadfish, sea horses (these are very hard to find), and many other critters to see on the reef that you will miss them if you go to fast. If your group is going to fast, ask the divemaster to slow down!

Our last trip to Belize (3 years ago) was after 20 dives and we were quite comfortable diving in the daytime, but that night dive really freaked-out Della - she held the divemasters hand for the entire dive. Now after 80 dives, she is ready to try this again. My only regret is that I waited so long to begin my scuba diving career!

You will really enjoy this sport.

Speaking of SHARKS, you can swim with them in AC at Shark-Ray Alley. When the boat pulls up there the rays and sharks (nurse sharks) come from everywhere. It is awesome!
We had done it once before in Grand Cayman, but I like it better in AC. You have to do it at least once. My first snorkeling trip in AC (many years ago), I jumped from the boat and landed right on top of a nurse shark (didn't actually touch it but almost). Scared me to death but the shark just swam a little bit away and settled back.

TexasCat, We really enjoy relaxation on our vacation, and an evening out in paradise is no problem. We will surely meet you at Houston. I wish our flight was tomorrow, but still nearly 4 weeks away. By the way, Della is the blonde one in our family. If we miss you in Houston, you will know us by the large black canvas bag with wheels to carry our dive gear.
