We're visiting San Pedro on the second half of our honeymoon this September, and plan to take part in some of the Independence Day celebrations on 9/21. What time do things start to get going? We're planning to charter a flight to see the Blue Hole (our big splurge!) that morning, but want to make it back in time.
Thanks!
Meg
Hello Megankj.....First of all allow us to say Congratulations....Secondly I can tell you that the September 21 Celebration is one of my absolute favorites of the year. The whole city gets involved starting around well before the 21st...However on that day we usually see people around 11am.....Decorating floats, waving flags, dressing in costume all for the parades. We like to find a place on Front Street by 1pm so that we can see the whole Parade, visit with friends and enjoy good food & drink......Come early find a place that feels good and enjoy......
The big block party on Front St is the night before. Starts early but gets going 11pm onwards, fireworks and flag raising at midnight then it goes all night.
Independence Day itself is the big parade around town. Both well worthwhile seeing and enjoying.
I'd consider rescheduling the Blue Hole flight for another day.
Thanks, Judyann and Phil!
Actually, this is our "off" day since the flight will only be an hour, and thus much shorter than any of our other daily plans (we're diving two days mornings, and then taking a sail to Caye Caulker)- so it's definitely the best of our options to do on Independence Day. We're staying north of the bridge at Cocotal so I don't anticipate a ton of late nights- which means relatively early mornings will be fine. We might come for some of the Block Party the night before (thanks for the heads up!) but we'll be taking the water taxi home and thus won't want to make it terribly late!
It sounds like we could book a 10 or 11am flight, have a good breakfast in town (need the "base layer" before we start drinking!), and then find a good spot once we get back before things really get rolling. Does that make sense?
I wasn't thinking of you. Think Pilot
Just kidding your schedule sounds perfect.
