If you bring down a laptop, you will
1.)be limited to the Word documents and games on your drive,
2.)unable to connect with the internet without paying an arm and a leg to BTL,
3.)liable to get sand inside it via the keypad, and
4.)have to lug it around with all your other things to keep track of...
There are a couple of Internet Cafe's down on Front St. that will be happy to connect you to the 'Net, cheap. They should suffice, unless you just have to do some work on your own machine.

Josh,
I was down in San Pedro in july and have a suggestion.
Humidity is a problem for electronics.
Look around and find the white granulated sustance that is available for absorbing humidity.
I can't think of the brand name, but it comes in bags and is some sort of "sodium ...".
I kept my laptop in a kitchen drawer when not in use. On top of the laptop, I put a saucer full of these granules.
Every day, I poured a couple of ounces of water out of the saucer, into the sink.
this is moisture that would have been surrounding your laptop.
Anyway, my machine survived two weeks with no troubles...good luck!

It's called 'Silica Gel', and it works as long as you can keep it in an enclosed space. As soon as you saturate the crystals, you must oven-dry them, so as to prevent the area to be protected from becoming moist. Good luck...
