A Man is Mutilated and Another Clings to Life

Sergio Giovanni Uribio

There was a gruesome, bloody murder in San Pedro in broad daylight Saturday afternoon. It happened at a home in the San Pedrito Area of the island and involved alcohol, a machete and a large knife. According to reports, three men were drinking at an apartment belonging to Jose Alfredo Villeda. Villeda and another man, Sergio Giovanni Uribio, got into an argument and then into an altercation. Best information is that Villeda pulled a knife and inflicted two mortal wounds on Uribio, one to the left side of the neck and the other to the left arm. Bleeding badly, Uribio then got hold of a machete and lashed out at Villeda, inflicting a large cut wound to his face, to the left knee, right leg and partially severing his left wrist and chopping off a finger. After that chopping frenzy Uribio lay dead on the floor, while Villeda clung to life. He was airlifted to the K.H.M.H. and is in critical condition.

“San Pedro Police responded to the San Pedro Polyclinic where they saw Sergio Giovanni Uribio suffering from stab wounds to the neck. He later passed away at the Clinic. Also observed was Jose Alfredo Villeda suffering from chop wounds across his body. In this case he is believed to be the suspect and he is currently under Police guard. This first incident seemingly arose out of an altercation between the two which resulted in the chopping and stabbing.”

Villeda is currently under Police guard at the K.H.M.H.  If or when he recovers, he will likely be charged for the murder of Uribio.

Alcoholism kills again. And these were probably nice guys when sober.

Alcoholism does not kill people, people kill people. Although drinking was involved it does not necessarily mean that the people involved were alcoholics.

Welland - Alcohol does kill maybe more slowly than this but alcohol is a mind altering drug and people do all kinds of crazy things while under the influence.

You are right. I totally understand and know the effects of alcohol. I wasn't thinking of it killing yourself. Friends of mine have died from it and it is not a pleasant death. Thank you.

I doubt if "I killed him because I had a couple drinks" is going to be a winning defense.

No charges for man who chopped his friend to death

The Director Of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has declared self-defense in the case of two friends who became involved in a machete fight while drinking, leading one to fatally chop the other, while the survivor was admitted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition.

Jose Alfredo Villeda, 48, of San Pedrito, San Pedro, was released from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital last week to recover at home, while his friend, Sergio Giovanni Uribio, 35, also of San Pedrito, has since been buried.

No charges will be levied against Villeda, because, according to the DPP, it was a case of self-defense.

The incident occurred at about 1:10 Saturday afternoon, January 16, in San Pedrito at Villeda’s home. Police reported that the men were socializing when they became involved in an argument, which escalated into a machete fight, during which Uribio got a machete and chopped Villeda, but Villeda retaliated, chopping Uribio.

According to police, Villeda was suffering from a large cut wound to the right side of his face; his left hand, had been partially chopped off at the wrist; he had been chopped on the left knee, right leg, and lower left leg; and a portion of his left pinky finger had been chopped off.

Uribio had been chopped on the left side of his neck and left arm. He was declared dead at about 1:30 that same Saturday afternoon, less than twenty minutes after his arrival at San Pedro Town’s hospital.
