Belizean Man Stabbed to Death in Hotel Room

There is a murder in San Pedro that police are investigating.� The body of a young man was retrieved from a hotel room on Barrier Reef Drive around midday today.� He is a U.S. national who resides in Caye Caulker and has been identified as Christopher Meighan. According to reports from the island, surveillance camera captured Meighan arriving at the Central Park Hotel just after nine on Thursday night.� He was accompanied by two men, one Hispanic and the other East Indian.� One of the men is known to live at the hotel. Meighan's body was found by a hotel worker when she went to clean the room. He had been stabbed multiple times and there is one report that his neck also had deep cut wounds.�� Police are looking for the two men who were seen entering the room with Meighan.� They are investigating all angles including that the murder may be drug related.

Police have learned that he was accompanied by a 29 year old Belizean American who booked the room and, he, along with another local and Meighan all went into the room.

This Belizean American was detained at the international airport and will be taken back to San Pedro.

One person detained following the murder of Caye Caulker resident Christopher Meighan in San Pedro Town

Police have detained one suspect in connection with the discovery of the lifeless body of 21-year-old Caye Caulker resident Christopher Meighan in a hotel in San Pedro Town on Friday, September 28th. Meighan was found by an employee shortly after 11AM in a sitting position between two beds in a pool of blood with what appeared to be a large cut wound to the throat area, a stab wound to the left lower abdomen and one stab wound to the left foot. Police transported the body to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II where Meighan was pronounced dead on arrival and later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital's morgue in Belize City.

According to the initial investigation, the room was Meighan was found had been booked by a Belizean American, who along with the deceased and a third person checked into the room on Thursday, September 27th around 9:30PM. The room was apparently booked for one night only. The following day, when the guests failed to check out at 11AM, an employee went to check the room and discovered Meighan's body. After police intensified their efforts, they were able to detain the Belizean-American suspect at the Philip Goldson International Airport in Ladyville, attempting to leave the country.

Family and friends are shocked to hear that their beloved Meighan was brutally killed. They describe him as a calm and fun person, who loved the island life, the sea, and cooking. The family hopes to receive good news from the investigation soon and have the responsible person/s punished for the death of their loved one.

Belizean-American Lalman Logan charged for Christopher Meighan's murder; Police seeking Rufino Hernandez

On the afternoon of Monday, October, 1st, 29-year-old Belizean American Lalman Richard Logan was formally arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court in connection to the murder of Caye Caulker resident, 21-year-old Christopher Meighan. No plea was taken and Logan was denied bail and remanded until his next court date on December 6th. Meighan was found dead inside a hotel in downtown San Pedro on Friday, September 28th with a cut wound to his throat, a stab to his abdomen and left foot. The previous day, Meighan was observed checking in to the hotel accompanied by Logan and another person identified as 29-year-old Rufino Hernandez. After the discovery of the murder the following day, Logan was detained at the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) as he was attempting to leave the country, while Hernandez is being sought by police.

Following Logan's charge and arraignment, police are seeking the public's assistance in apprehending Hernandez, who is believed to be connected with the murder. Hernandez, a resident from the San Mateo Area, is believed to have left the island, but police hope to arrest him soon as their investigation continues. Any person with information leading to Hernandez' arrest is advised to contact their nearest police station. All tips and information can remain anonymous.

UPDATE:
Police have confirmed that Rufino Hernandez, who is wanted in connection with the murder of Caye Caulker resident Christopher Meighan, was detained in Belize City late in the afternoon, Monday, October 1st. Hernandez is expected to be escorted to Ambergris Caye today Tuesday, October 2nd, where he will appear before the San Pedro Magistrate Court.
